Barbara Ferguson Obituary

Barbara Ann Blankenship Ferguson passed away suddenly in Bay St Louis, Mississippi on February 6, 2024. She was born in New Orleans, on May 26, 1953 and was 70. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Blankenship and Cora Ranlett Blankenship Beach, husband Scott Ferguson, sisters Eleanor "Petie" Hyman, and Jean Marie Blankenship. She is survived by her siblings Semmes Blankenship (Sherry), Lynn Mahoney (John), Cora Macormic; her children Melissa Mattix, Jacob Mattix (Jessica), Sarah Arevalo (David), and grandchildren Juliana Mattix, Jacob Mattix, Alex Arevalo, Oliver Arevalo, Benjamin Arevalo. A memorial service will be held graveside at 11:00 am on April 20th, 2024, at the Garden of Memories 630 Central Avenue, Bay St. Louis, MS. Barbara was a member of the Church of the King in Bay St Louis where she attended with her sister and daughter. Some of her favorite things were listening to Christian music, watching Hallmark movies, cooking, going to the beach and parades but most of all spending time with family especially for the 4th of July family reunions. Barbara was known for her cooking and made the best seafood gumbo in which she won 1st place in the Church of the king gumbo cookoff contest in 2015. When she cooked she would cook for an army as the pot would keep growing. She also entered the Times Picayune recipe contest and won for her recipe "Barbara's barbecue sausage" which appeared in the same paper. In addition to cooking, she also was an avid gardener growing all types of vegetables and sharing all her crops with friends and family. Barbara was a very sweet and kind person who will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.

Barbara we shared some good times together and invited me to your home. We watched movies, cheered for LSU and the Saints. You fed me when I was hungry and you treated my like a king. But most of all I enjoyed going to church with you on Sunday. I miss you and I look forward to meet you again.
