Barry Bailey Obituary

Barry Stone Bailey, 68, died recently at his home in New Orleans, LA. He was the son of the late Richard Junior Bailey and Dorothy Harris Bailey of Burlington, NC. Barry is survived by his brother Rick, Rick's wife Sara, and their son Oren; and his sister Holly, and her stepchildren Sebastian and Aurelie Colson. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Thierry Colson. After graduating from Walter M. High School in Burlington, NC, Barry earned a Master of Fine arts degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. A gifted artist, he was a former Professor at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, where he taught sculpture for many years. He was well known in the local art community, taught sculpture internationally, and over the years was responsible for many art installations around the city. Some of his works still adorn public and private spaces throughout New Orleans. A memorial will be planned at a later date where Barry will be honored by his many family members, friends, and students. Tharp Funeral Home & crematory is assisting the family.
