Bernadette S. Givens departed this life at her residence on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the age of 67. She weas a native o f New Orleans, A and a resident of Gretna, LA. Bernadette was a graduate of Alcee Fortier High School. Tippy, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was employee with One Shell Square for 38 years and Touro Hospital for 42 years. Daughter of the late Gertrude Smith and Louis Elloie, Sr., Sister of Louis (Dolores) Elloie, Jr., Ceaser (Shelly) Elloie, Michael Ellouie, Carla (Draus) Short, and the late Benedict Smith, Sr., and Teresa Elloie. Aunt of Benedict (Michelle) Smith, Jr., of Fresno, TX., Brandon (Joyce) Smith, and Francis (Shantra) Smith. Niece of Alice Brinston, Victor Smith, and the late Core Smith. Sister-in-law of Laverne Nettles Smith, Sally Mallory, Debra Nettles, Marilyn Nettles, Jerry Nettles, William Nettles, and Louis Mallory. Special thanks to Jerry Nettles (Ivory Michelle Glover, Benedict Smith, Jr., Brandon Smith, Francis Smith, Tommy Shanio, Sally Mallory, Doretta Johnson, and Keyaka Lafayette, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also priest and parishioners of All Saints Catholic Church and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Catholic Church 1441 Teche St. Algiers, LA on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 10:00a.m., Visitation will begin 8:00 a.m., until 9:30 a.m., and mass reading will begin at 9:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Father Peter Weiss officiating.
