Betty Gwyn Obituary

Betty Mailhes Gwyn died at Ochsner Foundation Hospital at noon on Wednesday, February 25, 2004. Born in New Orleans, April 8, 1927. The only child of Dr. Roger J. Mailhes and Bessie Lund Mailhes. Beloved wife of William B. Gwyn. A graduate of Newcomb College where she joined the Phi Mu Sorority. Qualified for librarian ship at LSU. Until her retirement in 1992, she was for many years, a reference librarian at the Tulane Howard-Tilton Library. Also for many years she served as the organist at Carrollton Presbyterian Church or Canal Street Presbyterian Church. She was ardent traveler who over the years visited most parts of the world. Besides her husband, she is survived by three stepsons, Hugh T. Gwyn, Bruce A. Gwyn and Nicholas C. Gwyn, several step grandchildren and her cousin Charles Knost of St. Petersburg Beach, FL. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Monday, March 1, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Visitation Monday morning 10:00 AM until Funeral Time. The Burial Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
