Beverly Himel Obituary

Beverly Favrot Himel, beloved wife of the late Thorn B. Himel, died on November 2, 2021. Born September 24, 1926, a native of New Orleans, she was the daughter of Gervais Freret Favrot and Mable Cooper Favrot, both of whom predeceased her, as did her sister Joan Favrot Geary and her daughter Beverly Himel Rafferty. She graduated from Isidore Newman School and attended Newcomb College where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She enjoyed her debut year and the Carnival honors that went with it. She joined the Junior League of New Orleans and was a conscientious volunteer working with and for blind children and for the New Orleans Museum of Art. She was also a devout and active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Covington. Beverly and Thorn raised their four children in New Orleans and then moved to the family compound in Covington in 1993. She is survived by their three children, Charlotte Thorn Himel, Thorn Baldey Himel (Sherri), Neil Himel II, half brother Gervais Freret Favrot, Jr., son in law, Renaud James Rafferty, loving husband of her late daughter Beverly. Six grandchildren, Jason Thorn Himel (Avie), Graham Favrot Himel, Edward Hotchkiss Himel, Charles Duval Himel, Charlotte Rawlins Rafferty, Beverly Himel Rafferty, and one great-granddaughter, Bailey Ann Himel. Beverly lived a full life filled with love and devotion from all who knew her. She was faced with many challenges in her journey, but her faith guided her through all adversities that came her way. Beverly was so grounded and solid in her actions. She had a deep sense of responsibility for others, always giving sound advice to those who turned to her. Beverly was an outstanding woman who always conducted herself with grace and dignity. Family was everything to Beverly. She married the love of her life, Thorn Baldey Himel and together they created a wonderful marriage, of love, happiness, and many fun filled moments to treasure with their four children. Beverly had countless friends, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved to visit with her, share laughter, her marvelous sense of humor and memories of a life well lived. There is no greater role model to live by than the example of how Beverly lived her life, completely selfless, from the moment she woke up, until she went to sleep, she was always doing things for others. Her beautiful smile and her beauty within will be remembered as a person who, most definitely, left this world a better place. Beverly's heavenly legacy is a gift for all who knew her. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 11 at 3 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home with visitation at 2 pm. Donations can be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lighthouse for the Blind or Christwood Retirement Community.

My brief meeting with Beverly through her niece, Marjory, was indeed a wonderful memory. May she rest in eternal peace with her Savior and those who await her in the heavenly banquet. My sympathy to all who mourn her loss.
