Carol Buffone Obituary

Carol Ann Poteet Buffone went to rest in the arms of her Savior April 19, 2022, at the age of 87. She was born August 3, 1934 in New Orleans, LA to Damas Oliver Poteet and Ruth Borne Poteet. An only child, she grew up in the cradle of her family, surrounded by parents, grandparents and doting aunts. The family moved from New Orleans when she was a young girl, relocating with her father's job at Bell Telephone, first to Birmingham, AL then to Atlanta, GA,. It was there she met the love of her life, Frank Henry Buffone, originally from Yonkers, NY, a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech. The couple married February 13, 1954, and after Frank's stint in the military in Korea, found their way back to New Orleans and settled down. Eventually, they would have four children together, Ellen Mary, Frank Henry Jr., Paul Damas and Susan Carol. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and friend, as well as a devoted Catholic. She shared her abiding faith in God with others as a religious educator for over 40 years, earning certification from the Institute of Catechetics and Spirituality in New Orleans. As such, she taught elementary and secondary school catechism, as well as adult education. She served as Coordinator of Religious Education and RCIA team member at Resurrection of Our Lord parish in New Orleans. She conducted Adult Bible Studies at St. Ann parish in Metairie. If you look up 'character' in the dictionary, you may find a picture of Carol. She never met a stranger, and would talk to anyone, any time. She was an amazing cook, she loved parties, and her gardens were tended with a patient and nurturing hand. She adored her family and cherished her friends. She was an innate storyteller, a voracious reader (how many times had she read "Gone with the Wind"? We lost count.) and a fan of movies and theatre throughout her life. She was a natural actress; she never let it be forgotten that she played the role of her lifetime as Jane Eyre for Christ the King High School in Atlanta. Above all, Carol loved to laugh. Even in the tears we shed now with her passing, we also recall so many times we laughed until we cried with her. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 58 years. She is survived by her children, Ellen B. Fucich (David), Frank H. Buffone, Jr. (Cora), Paul D. Buffone (Celeste) and Susan B. Guidry (David), as well as her grandchildren, Maxwell Paul Rogers, Frank H. "Tripp" Buffone III, Zachary Gonzalez, Amelia Celeste Buffone, Juliette Louise Buffone, Anna Claire Guidry, Joshua David Guidry, and Brandon Cyril Guidry. She leaves behind a wealth of memories of a life well lived, happiness, love and deep abiding faith. As she said, "My life has been a wonderful adventure, God was so good to me!" The family wishes to thank the staff at the St. Joseph Carpenter House hospice for their kind and considerate care in the brief time she was with them. Also the Heart Hospital of Our Lady of Lourdes, Maison de Lafayette, Doctors Leleux and Thomassie, for their care and counsel as she transitioned. We will always remember Carol in laughter, as she so fervently desired. Boom, mama, boom. Donations may be made in her name to St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Smile Train, or Habitat for Humanity. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 11 am. Visitation will begin at 9 am. A graveside service will follow Mass in Lake Lawn Park. To view and sign the family guestbook, visit lakelawnmetairie.com.
