Carolyn Sue Barcus Case, died on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the age of 78 from complications of breast cancer treatment 27 years ago. Her parents, William and Florence Barcus of Alliance, Ohio preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Howard; a daughter, Janet Van de Voorde (Neil); a son Robert (Janette); three grandchildren, Alicia Graham, Brett Graham and Makayla Toohey; and a brother, John Barcus of Wooster, Ohio. She graduated from high school in Alliance, Ohio and Hannah E. Mullins Practical Nursing School in Salem, Ohio and worked as a LPN. Carolyn took Janet and Bob to swim lessons and swim meets and never missed a soccer game in which Bob played. She had a passion was gardening and raising Daylilies. She was an avid reader and was seldom without a stack of books from the St. Tammany Parish Library branch on Robert Blvd. She also sneaked baked goods into the staff and knew many by first names. She loved watching the New York Mets going back to the days when she lived in New Jersey and any sportscast in which The Ohio State University participated. She was a consummate soccer grandma seldom missing a soccer game in which her granddaughter played, no matter the weather. When Alicia was in kindergarten, Carolyn and she started a dollhouse project that grew by the day and their love grew with it. Carolyn took the grandchildren, along with their mother, on Mother's Day weekend trips to Gulf Shores and watched Brett touch the Gulf water for the first time. She was active on the Care Team and Hearts from Home at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell, LA and had the ability to write notes that reached people in their time of need. We want to offer a special word of thanks and gratitude to the nurses and doctors in SICU and the doctors of Vascular Surgery at Ochsner Medical Center for their compassionate and loving care at OMC. A Memorial Service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Blvd, Slidell LA 70458, on Saturday, December 4, 2021. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by the Memorial Service at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Genesis Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to Aldersgate United Methodist Church would be appreciated. Please visit www.honakerforestlawn.com to sign guestbook. Howard I cannot fully express how much we appreciated the concern and comfort you and Carolyn gave to Effie in her ordeal. Carolyn was a wonderful caring person but she and Effie can now continue their close friendship free of any pain suffering or cares. Truly the world is a better place because of Carolyn,s legacy,

I didn’t know your mother personally, Janet, but from you speaking of her and from her obituary she was a beautiful woman who loved her family immensely! I only wish I could have met her and known her personally because I would have been blessed to be her friend as I am with you. May she Rest In Peace and comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your dad and your family ❤

We have missed Carolyn's smile and cheerful demeanor for a while and will continue to do so. She was very much one of our favorites.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
Carolyn was a wonderful person and friend, and I will miss her so much. I feel so blessed to have had the past years of correspondence with her and to have had our wonderful friendship. Our prayer for you, Howard, is that you will find the strength you need to carry on as she would want you to, and that the comfort of family and friends will help you find that strength. We send our love and deepest sympathies. Barbara and Gary
