Dr. Charles J. Fritchie Jr.

DR. CHARLES J. FRITCHIE, JR, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Slidell,La., passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the age of 80 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Fritchie,Sr. and Ethel A. Fritchie, a brother, Lee A. Fritchie, a sister-in-law, Linda S. Fritchie and a nephew, Dr. John A. Fritchie of Alexandria,La. He is survived by his brother, Donald G. Fritchie,Sr. and a nephew, Donald Glenn Fritchie, Jr. Charles graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Chemistry. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study at the University of Scotland in Cambridge. He attended Cal Tech upon return from Scotland and earned a PhD in chemistry. Dr. Fritchie was employed with DuPont and then returned to Tulane to become a faculty member teaching Chemistry. Charles was actively engaged in sculpturing as a hobby while teaching at Tulane. He continued sculpturing during his retirement and created a number of exhibits that were highly recognized. Another of his retirement pursuits was to lead an effort on behalf of the residents of his native home town of Slidell to form "Guardians of Slidell History" (GOSH), complete with exhibits, and lectures to honor the people in St. Tammany Parish. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Graveside.
