Charles Lang Obituary

Charles Joseph Lang, 82, of Covington, Louisiana, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 6, 2022, surrounded by those who loved him the most, his family. Charles was born on December 31, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Charles "Frankie" Lang and Marie Allo Lang. Beloved and devoted husband of Hortense Salinas Lang for 39 glorious years; loving father to Theresa Palkovic (David), Anthony Lang, Lori Nunez (Cesar) and "Bonus Dad" to Valinda Russo and Lisa Seeling (Eddie). He was known as "Pop, Poppa, Gramps and Grandpa" by his 12 Grandchildren - his pride and joy; Jamie Lang Hicks-Mabee (Benjamin), Tyler Lang (Annie), Krista Palkovic, Matthew Palkovic, Candase Cartozzo, Cesar Nunez (Lillie), Angelo Cartozzo (Tiffany), Andrew Nunez (Robecca), Sarah Palkovic (Brendan Hassett), Austin Seeling (Kelly), Michael Palkovic (Anna) and Rodney Russo. But his greatest treasures in life were his 22 great grandchildren, whom he was so incredibly proud of but honored to have such a close relationship with each one of them. Charles is survived by his baby sister, Geraldine "Bae" Lambeth, whom he loved dearly; his God-Sons, William Lambeth and Gerald Lambeth; and friend and mother of his 3 children, Mary Ruckman. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends, especially his special childhood friends, Gene Roth and Roy Shaw. Charles was a 1957 graduate of De La Salle High School in New Orleans. In 1958, he served in the US Naval Reserves and in 1961 he began working for Exxon in Chalmette before being transferred to Houston, Texas. After 38 years with Exxon, he retired and moved to Covington, Louisiana. Charles was a true sports fan but a diehard football and baseball fan. He bled black and gold for the New Orleans Saints, even during the "Aints" ages and purple and gold for the LSU Tigers. From 1967 to 1979, you could find him on the baseball fields of Jefferson Parish, coaching Little League for St. George 7th Ward Little League, alongside his best friend, Gene Roth. His favorite past times included playing poker; quick trips to the Gulf Coast Casinos with his wife on a Sunday afternoon (after the Saints game); and watching the Saints and LSU Tigers play and even better when joined alongside with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. But what made Charles the happiest was not just sitting in the football stadium or around a poker table at the casino, what made his heart full was when he was surrounded by his family, especially his great-grandchildren, they were his everything. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles "Frankie" Lang and Marie Allo Lang; his mother and father-in-law, Julia and Efrain Salinas; his brother-in-law, Rueben "Ray" Lambeth; his great-grandson, Trevor Parsons and his great-granddaughter, Caroline Anne Lang, whom we know welcomed him home with her sweet smile and tight hug. The family would like to thank St. Tammany Hospice and the St. Tammany/Ochsner Cancer Center for their help and support and most importantly, their care during the last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in the name of Charles J. Lang to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, 1-800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM until service time.
