Charles Gary Schaefer passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at age 71, after a long battle with kidney cancer. Beloved husband of Louise Kepper Schaefer. Loving father of Charles K. Schaefer (Molly) and William L. Schaefer (Lauri Anne). Son of the late Charles Albert Schaefer Jr. and Lucille Landry Schaefer. Brother of Beryl Schaefer Guelfo (George). "Abby" Schaefer, Anna Lawrence and Suzy Lawrence. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. As a native New Orleanian Mr. Schaefer truly loved this city's architecture, food and Joie de Vivre. He retired from Hibernia Bank and later became a Real Estate Investor. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. A special thanks to Home Care Solutions and Canon Hospice for their loving care and support. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State Street, New Orleans, La. 70118 on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Dear Louise,
I am so sorry about Gary. He was such a fun loving guy. He always enjoyed a party and seemed so upbeat all of the time, even when fighting his illness.
I think he would have enjoyed his eulogies, George's was heartfelt and amusing. Charles' was so touching. Your boys are so handsome and they have always been so nice, you must be very proud of them.
I really feel for you with the loss of Gary and your Mother. You are such a caring person, loved by many.
Love,
~ Kay

March 7, 2016

Dear Louise,
Mark joins me in this message of deepest sympathy. We are headed to north Georgia tomorrow and so we will not be able to attend Gary's service. I know it will be a lovely tribute and will be praying for everyone traveling here to be with you. In some small way I hope it is a comfort to know others care very much and share your sorrow.
I can't help thinking about your family at the Mystery Ball and also at your 70th birthday party - the good times. I hope you will be able to rest some and focus on your many good memories. Peace +++
With love,
~ Mark and Libby

Dearest Louise,
Please forgive me for taking so long to finally put down in written words my deepest and heartfelt feelings of sorrow from the loss of Gary and sympathy for you. My heart ached at sharing your pain because you are so very special to me.
Frank and I truly miss Gary- his humor and genuine honesty, his interest in others, and willingness to help whenever he saw it was needed - someone you could always count on. We've always admired his dedication to family and you as well.
We are indeed most blessed to have had him as our friend and for all the wonderful memories we have of the great times we shared over the years. I know that if Frank had not still been working, he would have wanted to spend more time with Gary.
And now I still thank God for having brought you into and for keeping you in my life. I pray that our friendship will always remain special and strong and that we will always be there for each other.
Still praying for God to comfort you and keep you strong through this most difficult time.
Much Love,
Anne and Frank

Dear Aunt Louise, Charles and William,
I know it has been a difficult year with the passing of your mother and grandmother and now your beloved husband and father. You have our condolences and were saddened by you loss.
Although it has been far too long since we have had to the opportunity to visit, I was very fortunate to have visited with Aunt Weezie about eighteen months ago. She was great to rekindle fond memories of my grandmother. However, her true joy and delight was in the stories she recounted of you. Her love was radiant.
You will remain in our prayers during this difficult time. Hopefully, the Christmas spirit will ease your grief.
With deepest sympathy,
~ Peyton
