Charmaine Baker Hankton

Charmaine Baker Hankton departed this life on Friday, May 12, 2023 at HCA Northwest Cypress Hospital in Houston, Texas. Charmaine was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, La. and Luling, La., until she relocated to Houston, Texas after Hurricane Katrina. She attended schools in the New Orleans Public School system, where she graduated from Eleanor McMain High School in 1971. She was baptized at Historic Second Baptist Church by Rev. T.N. Washington. Charmaine developed medical complications at the age 35. She was unable to attend church, but her message to her children and grandchildren was "Come to Jesus". She faithfully was a watch member of Historic Baptist Church on YouTube after Hurricane Ida. She will be remembered by her loving children; Tara, Tania, Brandon, (Kyla), Deon (Mr. Lincoln), Eddie Sr. (Yolanda) and Craig (Dyneisha). Grandchildren: Ciara, Edwana, Jasmine, Eddie Jr. Jacolby, Michael Sr., Jowelle, Breichel, Ricardo Jr., Breanna, Curtis Jr., India, Angelo, Anthony, Antonio, Angelina, Brandon Jr., Victor, Craig Jr., Cordell, Tiana and Shaniya, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 god-child; Sean-Ryan, 1 aunt; Ruby Woods, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law other relatives. Charmaine was preceded in death by her loving husband; Eddie James Hankton Jr. of 15 years, 2 brothers Leroy Baker Jr. and David Baker Sr., sister; Donna Marie Baker; her parents; Leroy Baker Sr. and Elizabeth Preston, her loving grandmother; Bernice Preston, her mother-in law; Bernice Hankton and father-in-law; Eddie James Hankton Sr. Charmaine was a loving person to all who knew her, and was a babysitter for many of her neighbor's children. Charmaine constantly communicated with her children. She would wake them up in the morning, call them at their lunch time, call them in the evenings and bid them goodnight.This happened everyday. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Fisher Community Church, 1737 L. B. Landry Ave. Algiers, LA 70114. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Rev.
