Christopher Morel Obituary

Christopher Matthew Morel passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2024. Christopher is the son of Matthew and Amy Lipscomb Morel, the brother of Jeanne "Gigi" and Mattie Camille Morel, the grandson of the late Jerry and Shirley Lipscomb and the late James Morel and the late Paula Morel. Christopher attended St. Pius X Catholic School, Christian Brothers School, Jesuit High School, and was a senior at Loyola University. After suffering a spinal cord injury in 2018, Christopher proved to be a fierce, determined fighter. He continued to persevere tirelessly and work hard to achieve his goals. He received physical and occupational therapy at TIRR in Houston, Neurofit in Ft. Lauderdale, Touro Rehabilitation Hospital, Riverbend Physical Therapy, and Split Second Foundation. He exceeded expectations and went on to pursue an independent life. Christopher planned to continue his education post college to help others who suffered life changing injuries. His dedication to his own recovery was a catalyst to his decision to dedicate his postgraduate studies to provide support to others. Following his most recent illness in July of 2023, Christopher fought hard and persevered surrounded by family, good friends, and the exceptional care of the incredible staff at Ochsner LTAC. Christopher will be remembered for his resilient strength, quick wit, effortless banter, love of sports, passion for music, and his innate intellect. He was loved by all and his legacy will not be forgotten. Christopher leaves behind his parents, sisters, loving aunts and uncles, 23 cousins, and devoted friends. The family would like to thank his extended family who visited, stayed with, and loved Christopher throughout his life and illness. The friends who will stand by Christopher as he is laid to rest deserve special thanks for consistently visiting, supporting and entertaining him for the last seven months. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Scott Gibson, The McClure family, Nadia Haik, Jean Lipscomb Paciera, and the St. Pius X Community. Services will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at St. Pius X Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans, La. The visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Interment following at Lake Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Christopher's name to St. Pius X Catholic School, 6600 Spanish Fort Blvd., NOLA 70124, or the Sister Servants of Mary, 5001 Perlita St., NOLA 70122.

I think of Chris often. His smile said a lot to me. Even though he is with our Lord, I can´t help wishing that if he could have continued his journey here on earth, it would have been a prosperous and fulfilling one. Know that you are in my heart Chris.

I share my deepest condolences with the Morel family. Chris at one point and I had a relationship after his injury, but even when it ended, we stayed friends and he taught me what it meant to be resilient and optimistic. I will miss you and think of you always. I'm so sorry God called you home so soon, but I know you're at peace now.

Dear Family of Christopher,
I had the opportunity to have Christopher as a student in an online class at Loyola this past year. He was such a talented, articulate, insightful and compassionate young man. I so appreciated his contributions to our class discussions and from their responses, I know his classmates did as well. I am so very sorry for all of you. Please know that your loss is shared by our entire community and that we grieve with you.

I cherish fond memories of Christopher as my kind, fun-loving and bright 4th grade student. Christopher's good nature and cheerful disposition made him a fine friend to his classmates, many of them becoming his friends for life. He grew into a charming young man full of promise. His accomplishments are remarkable. Prayers and sincere condolences for the Morel family. Rest in God's love and peace, dear Christopher.

My favorite memory of you Christopher will always be the way you smiled at me. Your smile spoke volumes! You left us way too early! I do understand. What I can say to you now is that you are now living your best life. I know that you had a loving family. I saw that. But being in God´s world, well what can I say? You now know. I would ask that you keep smiling at me just the way that I remember. I pray that we meet again someday!
