Cynthia Thibodeaux Obituary

Cynthia Maria Thibodeaux passed away at her home in New Orleans on Monday, August 28, one month before her 80th birthday. Cynthia, affectionately known by her family as "Sister" was born September 25, 1943, in New Orleans, LA, to Thomas and Cornelia Dumas Thibodeaux. She graduated from Xavier Preparatory School in 1961. Cynthia was married to Alvin J. Bordenave, Jr., and they had two sons, Stephen Girard and Jeffery Joseph. She later married James N. Duffy and they resided in New Orleans. Cynthia had a successful career, which included time as Director of Membership for the Audubon Institute, and Membership Director at the World War II Museum. In her later years, she became an Interior Design Consultant at Helm Paint and Decorating. She loved helping friends and clients decorate their homes with lovely colors and floral prints. She created beautiful drapery and slipcovers and was an accomplished upholsterer. In addition to sewing, Cynthia also enjoyed gardening, and she was an excellent cook. She often prepared fabulous holiday meals for her family and friends. Cynthia was a big fan of the New Orleans Saints, and on most Sundays during football season you could find her at home, watching the game and cheering for a win. She loved cats, and they provided her companionship throughout most of her life. Cynthia is survived by her children, Stephen (Jessa Flor) Bordenave and Jeffery Bordenave, her grandchildren, Deijah, Rachel, Jordan, and Johnathan. She is also survived by her siblings, Thomas Thibodeaux, Jr., Michaele Thibodeaux (Sidney) Barthelemy, Sheila Thibodeaux Marcus, and Donna Thibodeaux (Joseph) Brennan, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Michael Thibodeaux. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on September 9, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Church, 4640 Canal Street. Internment to follow at St. Louis #3 Cemetery, 3421 Esplanade Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trap Dat Cat or the Louisiana SPCA. Cynthia was a star in our Memoirs class at People Program. I always looked forward to hearing her stories about family and childhood growing up within the culture of New Orleans. I love the dishes she brought to our parties. In our books, we can still read her engaging stories. We can also read her recipe for for her delicious candy cake. I´ll miss Cynthia and will always remember her as a kind and loving woman.
