D.C. “Barney” Whitten Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, in the chapel of Little and Davenport Funeral Home for D.C. "Barney" Whitten, 87, who passed away on Jan. 12, 2010. The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Calvin Haney will officiate. Burial will be at Alta Vista Cemetery.
A native of Princeton, Ind., he had lived in Gainesville since 1967. He was the son of the late Ralph W. and Olive Whitten. He served in the Marines in World War II; he was a member of the American Legion Paul E. Bolding Post No. 7. He had recently received his 50 year pin from the Kentucky Masonic Organization. He retired from Potter and Broomfield after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Whitten; and his brother, Donald Whitten.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elouise R. Whitten of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Jane Whitten, Franklin, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Ronnie Bramble, Oakwood; daughter-in-law, Donna Whitten of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Lisa Crawford, Dawn Thompson, Heather Whitten, all of Flowery Branch, Scott Whitten of Duluth, Todd Whitten, Brooke Bush of Franklin, Ky., Nicole Lambert of Paducah, Ky., Hope Drumm of Nashville, Tenn., Chris Bramble of Oakwood, Kelli Murray of Hoschton and Keith Bramble of Gainesville; and sister-in-law, Virginia Whitten of St. Petersburg, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd. Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30345, or the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 115, Gainesville, GA 30501.
