David Ferrera Obituary

David Kent Ferrera, of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away at the age of 81, on Saturday, January 18, 2020. David was born September 11, 1938 in Belize City, Belize to Ethel Marie Jeffery and Duval Francisco Ferrera. David married Maria Cristina on December 17, 1960 in Mexico City. They were married 59 years. David was in the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and Thailand, among other locations. David received a Joint Service Commendation Medal for meritorious service in the performance of his duties while serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force and later dedicated himself to being a military MWR club manager. He is survived by his wife, Maria Cristina, his children, Frank, James and Sylvia, and his grandchildren, Luke Ferrera, Francesca Ferrera, Oscar Dykema, Dimitri Dykema, and Ana Paola Suarez, his siblings Victor Ferrera, Earl Jeffery, Duan Ferrera, Elrita Ferrera, Christopher Usher, and Harold Usher and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by siblings Shelley Ferrera, Marie Lamar, Carl Usher and Allen Usher. David was a great man and a gentle soul who never knew a stranger and was loved by many. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father and thoroughly enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched but especially by his wife, children and grandchildren. He will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11 am, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, with funeral mass following at 1 pm. David was always generous and gracious, which was demonstrated when our children were married. We were instantly family and we remained so.
All of us are sad that our time with David has been cut short.
Joanie and I are sending our comforting thoughts to Cristina and the family.
