David Courtney Hanby

David Courtney Hanby passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of April 24, 2018 at the age of 92. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1925, David spent his early years there before moving with his parents, David Rudolph and Margie, to Amite City, La. He was drafted in 1945 and joined the Army Air Corps, where he flew 25 missions as a tail gunner and radio operator in a B 17 bomber, with the Bloody 100th Bomb Group based out of Thorp Abbots, Norfolk, U.K. David returned from his service and entered LSU where he obtained a Bachelor's degree. He joined Shell Oil Company as a draftsman, working in Donaldsonville, La. and New Orleans, La until he retired after 40 years. David married Beverly Jean Vining and had four children, David Jr (Gay), Dana (Roma), Dawn and Dean (Dede). He later married Mable Fisher and moved to Destin, FL where he resided for thirty years. David is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, Courtney Hanby Schaneville (Ken), Jeffery (Erin), Ellie, Alex, Blaire, Cathryn, Jordan, Taylor and Peyton. Six great grandchildren, Riley and Rory Schaneville, Kate and Luke Hanby, Adyn and Aubrey Hanby. The family will hold a private memorial gathering to celebrate his life. Arrangements by L. A.
