David Thomas Hendry

David Thomas Hendry died from a pulmonary embolism on Easter Sunday, April 17th, 2022, in Sun City, Arizona at the age of 70. He was the second son born to the late Warren Douglas Hendry III and Olive Mary Champagne Hendry on July 24, 1951, in New Orleans, LA. David was the beloved husband of Janice Elaine Bothell Hendry for the last 27 years. He is survived by his siblings Warren Douglas "Doug" Hendry IV (Susan), Stephen "Steve" Paul Hendry (Su) and Tammie Jo Hendry Smith (Jack). David had no children, but leaves behind his nieces and nephews Tim Hendry, Stephanie Hendry McDaniel (Sean), Carolyn Law (Kelly), Jenna Cunningham (Derek), Gregory Chick and Jessica Chick. David was also godfather to John Nordstrom and Emily Patasini. David grew up in Covington graduating from CHS in 1969 as president of his class. He went on to LSU and graduated in 1974 with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. He then moved to Bellevue, Washington where he worked for Boeing until 1983 and was also a member of Kiwanis International serving one year as president of his chapter. His dream was to be an airline pilot. He left Boeing to fly freight until he was hired by Frontier Horizon in 1984. He then went to work for AirCalifornia in August of 1986 and in November of 1986, AirCal was bought by American Airlines. He made Captain in 1996, at last fulfilling his lifelong dream. He retired from American Airlines on September 1, 2011, and moved to Sun City, Arizona. Air shows, mentoring young men wanting to become pilots and traveling filled his retirement years. Relatives and friends are invited to the Liturgy of the Word at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 3:00 PM with visitation from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.
