JONES David Paul Jones, a renowned commercial and portrait photographer, passed away on June 23, 2013 at his residence in New Orleans. He was 76. Dave was born in Detroit, MI on Nov 27, 1936 and lived in the Midwest until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1959. An original member of the Krewe of Mystic Orphans and Misfits (MOMs), he reigned as King Quasimodo in 2002. He also served as their Royal Photographer for 20 years. Dave was very active in the performing arts in New Orleans and was an accomplished woodworker. He graduated from Bedford High School in Temperance, MI in 1954 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from LSU New Orleans. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Le Bon Temp Roule, 4801 Magazine St., NOLA. Dave donated his body to science. How ironic that I open this email as the movie Kodachrome was ending. I had just said how much I miss you. You left us with beautiful moments and memories. Each holiday I notice that I don't have that special Dave card. Hugs. Forever. Friend and adopted Uncle.

Dave, you are never far from my heart and mind of mine and many others. My children Jessica, Samantha and Tory are beginning to appreciate the photography gifts of time and love. Bett was right down the street in Marietta. If we'd only known. I'm back in LA in Baton Rouge. So wish you were here.

Rest in peace, my friend. You were a fine photographer, with more than touch of true genius. You always found the great beauty within every woman. You were a glorious paradox -- a deep and thoughtful hedonist with a heart of pure gold. And a damned good cook. Keep the Elysian Fields forever lively.

How very much we'll miss getting from Dave our usual(um...actually, they were always hilariously UNusual)cards for both Jewish & Christian holidays. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins this Wed., Sept 4th at sundown. So glad we saved his cards - they'll be nice to revisit. Grateful for Dave's friendship & all the fond memories, bett & allen

Everywhere I go, there you still are. I wish you would answer your phone. I really miss you Dave. I just found the camera that you loaded with black and white film, I can't even remember what is on it. I always assumed that you would be the person developing it, now what do I do? I hope you knew that I loved you.

If you are Happy & you know it-Smile :)

RIP Uncle Dave. Stanton, Hunter and I will always remember fondly the time we spent with you last summer, and one of the best meals of our lives at Atchafalaya, where you were honored as a regular.

The whole Jones family will always have the legacy of all your photos. I just wish more of your stories and knowledge of family history were as well documented. Surely more than a few of the family would be surprised to learn of our Jewish roots from the Fisch and Schneider lineage, as we did during that dinner. Shalom and peace.

I've known Uncle Dave for years, but it wasn't until I moved to Louisiana that I had a chance to spend quality time with him. After Hurricane Katrina he lived with me for about six weeks, but was so excited to get back to his own home in New Orleans. Then after Hurricane Gustav he made a trip over to my place to help put my fence back up. He had a big heart and I'll miss him. Love from your niece in Prairieville!

I just learned of the passing of DP as I called him.To his family I send my sympathy and prayers. Dave. It is hard to believe you are gone. From our Navy days in New Orleans fifty-one years ago we have always been great life long friends. Though we never were able to get together often we did every time I made it to New Orleans and you stopped a couple times to see me in FT Wayne enroute to your family reunions and we had many phone calls over the years.I will miss your laugh and smile.. I cherish the memories of things we did. I especailly will remember what you told me about your becoming a photographer. You told me that I was the one who taught you the most about photography and I was reason you decided to take it up as a career. That certainly was a special moment for me. I remember teaching you how to compose photos, how to develop and print photographs. You spent many hours with me in the Eighth Naval District Photo Lab watching what I did. You became a great photographer. You were a great fiend and I will miss you very much . May God grant you eternal rest.

Dave,
My memories of you are unique to me and I am thankful that you were able to have a second 'family' in New Orleans. One of my most fond memories growing up with you,is that you would watch the 3 Stooges with me and fall off the couch with laughter.
Lovingly,
Your sister Patsy

We have lost our beloved Family Patriarch, Big Brother, and Favorite Uncle. He was one of a kind and we will miss him terribly. Thank you, New Orleans and MOMS, especially, for being his family in his loved adopted City. He loved sharing stories of his friends and life in NOLA through the years. He loved you all so much and it's good to know he received so much love back. Love from sister, Ariel
