Elfair Bealer Obituary

Elfair B. Bealer passed away on October 3, 2017 at the age of 98. Better known as "Jack," he was a native and longtime resident of Gretna, LA who resided in Memphis, TN for the past 10 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Katie Bealer, his wife of 73 years, Rita Bealer, and one daughter, Marilyn Lea. He is the grandfather of William Cambre (Caren), Christopher Cambre (Felicia) and Katie Gristina (Jason). He is the great-grandfather of Brandon Cambre, Abigail Cambre, Emily Cambre and Maren Gristina. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and took part in the invasions of the Pacific Islands of Saipan, Tinian and Guam. Following WWII, he worked as General Yardmaster for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, Co. until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the 126-year-old Gould Volunteer Fire Company, No. 2 where he served as Chaplain for many years. He was a parishioner of Salem Lutheran Church in Gretna and a member of the Terrytown Golden Age Club. During their lives, he and his wife enjoyed time spent with family, friends and the community of Gretna. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Salem Lutheran Church in Gretna on Friday, October 27 at 6:30 pm with funeral services immediately following at 7:00 pm. A private family interment will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna on Saturday, October 28 at 9:00 am.

This is one of the finest men that I have ever known. I have a special place in my heart for him as he was like a Grandfather to me. I was out of the country for his visitation and sadly missed it. I also missed seeing his grandson Will that I will always love for allowing me to know Jack. Thank you BREEZE....

My condolences to the Bealer family for your loss. Eccl.7:1 says A good name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth. Mr. Jack certainly have made a name for his service to his family and community, and will be remembered by all who knew him well.
