Elizabeth Watson Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Ochello Watson, age 86 went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 06, 2016 at 5:45 in the evening. She was born, Friday, November 08, 1929 in Marrero, LA. She is survived by her daughters, Nettie Carr (Charlie), Debbie Cuda (Mark), Diane Matherne (Michael), Gwen Martin (Chuck) and son, Scott Lewis Watson. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Wes Carr (Wendy), Stephanie Fontenoy (Justin), Lindsay Tomasik (Joshua), Amy Williams (Zack), Hillary Kuiper (Alex), Michaela Matherne, Brandon Watson (Tiffany), Courtney Dawkins (Bill), Susan, Sarah, and Daniel Watson, as well as 11 great grandchildren, Sadie, Savannah and Wesley Carr, Harry, Sammy and Katie Fontenoy, Ava and Josh Tomasik, Ellie Kuiper, Cayden Mullinax, and Eli Dawkins. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Watson Jr., her son, Herman Watson III, her father and mother, Frank and Mary Ann Ochello and her brother, Thomas Ochello. Betty was a selfless lady blessed with the gift of hospitality and service. Stories abound of being invited into her kitchen. "Baby, you want something to eat?" There always seemed to be pots of spaghetti and meatballs cooking on the stove. She was happy and content in her role as wife and mother but then her dear husband, Herman, was called home and left her a widow at age 41. With six children to raise, she returned to the workforce at Halliburton Services, where she originally met the love of her life, many years before. She worked there until her retirement. Along with the death of her husband, Betty faced many other hardships. Her father died soon after her husband and she endured the premature deaths of her brother and son. She was a breast cancer survivor and the sole caretaker of her mother for more than 30 years, who died at age 98. Carried through life by her strong faith and love for her Lord Jesus Christ, she was influenced and supported by many loving congregations. Betty was raised in the Catholic church and joined the Gretna Presbyterian Church after her marriage to Herman, where she stayed for 20 years. She attended Berean Bible Church from its beginnings and, after her move to Bush from the Watson home on Belle Terre Road, she worshipped at Northshore Bible Church in Covington until her death. The morning of her death, Betty had a few moments of clarity, breaking through the cloud of her dementia, and was counting the blessings the Lord had given her. She named, among many other things, her wonderful and loving husband, her children, precious grandbabies and great grandbabies. Her joy was loving them well. She lived life serving others with a sweet, caring, and generous spirit. Her family now rejoices that she has peaceful rest in the arms of her Savior. Proverbs 31:28 "Her children rise up and call her blessed". Betty's family will gather briefly for the interment at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, LA 70056. Afterward, there will be a visitation time at Northshore Bible Church, 19516 Sunshine Ave., Covington, LA 70433 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM with her celebration of life service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ministries of Northshore Bible Church. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
