Sis. Ella "Mae" Curtis-Bowser, May 4, 1928- March 25, 2022. Sis. Ella "Mae" Curtis-Bowser was born on May 4, 1928, in Lutcher, LA. She was the daughter of the late Ms. Rosella Curtis and James Bowser. She was one of 3 children born into this marriage. Sis. Ella "Mae" Curtis-Bowser was educated in the New Orleans Public school system. Also, she attended Sidney & Collier Technical College where she obtained her associates of arts, with her major being in Sewing. Sis. Bowser was baptized by the late Rev. Welton Washington Sr. of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA. She was a faithful and dedicated member under Rev. Welton Washington's leadership for 52 years. While at the New Birth Baptist Church, she served on the Pastor's aid committee, the church choir, and later on the deaconess board. Sis. Ella "Mae" Curtis-Bowser had 6 children. Namely, Mr. Melvin Bowser, Lilly "Mae" Dorsey, Sammy Bowser, Edward Bowser (Mary), Sandra "Ann" Bowser Williams, and Ms. Alice "Mae" Bowser. She was a current member of the Fifth African Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Dale J. Sanders, Sr. for the past 12 years. Sis. Ella "Mae" Curtis-Bowser was a faithful member until God said, "Servant of God well - done". Sis. Curtis-Bowser had (15) fifteen grandchildren. Namely, Melvin, Cedrick, Natasha, Edward Jr., Kisha, Marie, and Samuel Jr., Bowsers. Charles, and Antoine Williams, Ed-Shonia Lewis, Cyril Benjamin, Kawanda Smith, and Michelle Franklin. She had (24) twenty-four great-grandchildren. One Godchild, Joshua A. Allen whom she loved dearly. Sis. Ella "Mae" Curtis-Bowser is preceded in death by her parents, Rosella Curtis and James Bowser, her son Mr. Melvin Bowser, and her (2) two daughters Ms. Lillie "Mae" Dorsey and Ms. Sandra "Ann" Bowser Williams. Brother, James Curtis, her granddaughter Valentina, and Emanuel Benjamin her great-grandson. So, on Friday, March 25, 2022, called her home. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Services are being held in her memory on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the Fifth African Baptist Church, located at 3419 S. Robertson St., New Orleans, LA 70115 at 10:00 am. Visitation is from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Rev. George S. Washington, Sr. officiating. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.
