Elray Cassard Obituary

Elray 'Ray' Philip Cassard, of Bridge City, Louisiana passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his loved ones as he was taken home by Jesus. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 60 years, Nedra Rivero Cassard. His children Keith Cassard (Vicky), Darnell Landry (Randal), and Denise Dantin (Todd). His grandchildren Brittinie Sparks (Tommy), Bryce Landry, Brandi Hebert (Jordan), Brandon Agoff, and Bethanie Cassard. Great Grandchildren Brailey & Creed Landry, Tatum, Talan & Tanner Hebert, and Brianna & Braedyn Sparks. His siblings Roy Cassard, Shirley Soileau, and Wayne Roy. Elray was preceded in death by his parents Lucien & Clara Ourso Cassard; his Parents in Law Cleveland & Delta Rivero, his Brothers in Law Dennis Rivero (Patricia), Gary Rivero, Kenneth Rivero; and his nephews Ricky Rivero and Baby David Rivero. Elray is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Elray was a native of Brusly McCall, Louisiana and resided in Bridge City, Louisiana for the past 60 years. He was a devout Catholic and active parishioner of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Bridge City. Elray dedicated his entire adult life being a mentor for the youth, in groups such as Pioneers & Westside Boy's Clubs. He was also an adult advisor for the Catholic Youth Organization for HGA for over 20 years. For Elray's time and dedication, he was bestowed with the highest award, the order given to lay people by the Archdiocese, the St. Louis Medallion. He was selected Man of the Year, Family of the Year, Father of the Year, and King Creole Gumbo XXXVI. Elray was also an active member of HGA Men's Club. He lived life for God and his family. He journey through life was filled with many passions other than his family, he loved fishing, hunting, singing, and dancing. He put smiles on the faces on many with his sense of humor. He lived life to the fullest celebrating the gift of Life. The family would like to express their gratitude to the care and compassion given by Father Buddy Noel, Dr. Patricia Estrada, Karla Bernard, Nancy Scairono, the staff of Heart of Hospice: Tammy, Tracy, & Ashley, and the many visitors that came to express their love to Elray during his time of need. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Buddy Noel at 1:00PM, on Monday, February 27th, 2023, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 146 4th Street in Westwego, Louisiana. A visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, February 26th from 7:00PM until 10:00PM and continuing on Monday morning from 8:00AM until the Mass time. Elray will be laid to rest following the Funeral Mass at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
