Eric Andre Bacon

Eric Andre Bacon, age 52, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife, Stacie Dupre Bacon; his daughter, Kandace Richardson (Joseph); grandchildren Hayden, Adalaide, and Logan Richardson; his siblings Cindy Bacon, Bruce Bacon and Sandra Dufrene (Randy). Eric is also survived by his nieces Shawna Bacon, Kristin Bacon and Jaclyn Thornton (Dane), as well as his honorary daughter, Taylier Boudreaux. Eric Bacon graduated from L.W. Higgins High School in Marrero, Louisiana, and then served in the United States Army National Guard as a Private First Class. Eric was a career public servant who served in the Fire Service for more than two decades, and previously served as a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Westwego Police Department. Eric began his fire career with the Lafitte, Barataria, Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department and worked as a Firefighter and an Operator. Eric also worked with the Live Oak Manor Volunteer Fire Department, and he served as an Operator/Firefighter, Fire Prevention Chief and Public Information Officer. In 2006, Eric was employed by the Jefferson Parish Eastbank Consolidated Fire Department, within the Fire Prevention Bureau as a Fire Investigator. During his tenure as a Fire Investigator, Eric pursued and received extensive training in fields of fire and explosions from multiple institutions and agencies (National Fire Academy(NFA), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Louisiana State University-Fire & Emergency Training Institute (LSU), New Mexico Tech University, National White Collar Crime Center, International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Criminalistics Laboratory/Loyola University, Jefferson Parish Fire Training Center, Louisiana State Fireman's Association and the Federal Emergency Management Institute(EMI)). Eric received several certifications which included Certified Firefighter, Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator, Certified Fire Investigations Technician, Certified Evidence Collection Technician and Certified Instructor. Eric was later promoted to Investigations Supervisor, then ultimately promoted as the Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau where he managed the Investigations Division, Inspections Division, Plan Review and Public Education Divisions. Eric was a long standing, active member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, as well as the Louisiana State Chapter of the International Association. During his membership, Eric served as a Board Member as well as a member of the Executive Board of Directors and in 2015 begin serving as State Chapter President which he served until his passing. Eric was also a member of the National Association of Fire Investigators, Louisiana State Fireman's Association and the International Association of Property & Evidence. Eric was awarded Operator of the Year by the Lafitte, Barataria, Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department in December 1999, and the Cytec-Firefighter of the Year by the Live Oak Manor Volunteer Fire Department in 2001, and 2002. Eric also provided course instruction in the fields of Fire/ Arson Investigations and Workplace Fire Safety to others and other organizations to include associated fire departments/organizations, law enforcement agencies as well as being a guest lecturer at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Recruit Training Academy. In 2018, Eric was instrumental with the creation of the newly enacted legislation that became known as the Negligent Arson law, which is the first event in the State of Louisiana. Eric was always known for his outstanding professionalism and his unwavering dedication to public service. Eric had a profound love for the fire service and always strived to better himself and others around him. Eric consistently pursued knowledge of both the fire industry and criminal law and worked tirelessly to combat arsonists. He was true to his Oath of Office and worked exhaustively to promote public safety and educational outreach to the citizen of Jefferson Parish. Eric's love for his brothers and sisters in both the fire service and law enforcement was unconditional and he was a true partner, friend, brother and mentor to us all. Outside of his professional passion he put his family and friends first. He would give everything he had to everyone he encountered. He had a deep love for his wife and closest friends. Eric will be missed by many but know that he lived his life and will be with us forever. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a service starting at 12:00 p.m. Due to state mandates, masks are required at all times and the funeral home is limited to 150 people.
