Ernest 'Jitterbug' Rome, Sr., 89 years of age, departed this life on Monday, September 14, 2015. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Philip St, New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 11:00 am. Visitation in the church beginning at 9:00 am, until time of service. A native of Modeste, LA, Ernest relocated to New Orleans as a young man. He was employed for many years as a chef at one of New Orleans' finest restaurants, Delmonico's. He leaves to cherish his many precious memories, his wife of more than 60 years, Nellie Dumas Rome; two sons, Ernest Paul (Talisha) and Robert (Angele), one daughter, Susan Marie Rome; two brothers, Clarence and Lawrence Rome; one brother-in-law, Louis (Virginia) Dumas; four sisters-in-law, Marie Girly Walker, Bernice Burrell, Doris Dumas, Claretta (Pierre) Steib; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
