Evelyn B. Lanassa

1926 - 2016

Evelyn B. Lanassa passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 13, 2016 while praying her rosary. She was 90 years young, a native and lifelong resident of Westwego. Beloved wife of the late Frederick L. Lanassa, Jr. for 45 wonderful years. Loving mother of Ronnie Lanassa (Connie) and Kathy L. Bernard (Lynn L. Jr.). Proud grandmother of Ronald Lanassa Jr., Wyndy Chopin (Joab) and Brittney Bernard. Great grandmother of Amber Chopin, Alyssa Lanassa, Kayla Lanassa and the late Jade Marie Lanassa. Great-great grandmother of A'lijah Smith. Daughter of the late Eve Milda St. Germain Barbetta and Octave August Barbetta. Sister of the late Ethel Barbetta Babin and Barbara Barbetta Falgout Perry. She also leaves behind her brother in-law Francis Adams, nieces, nephews other family and friends to cherish her memory. Evelyn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 206, 8/40 Auxiliary and was the 2nd District Procurement Chairman for Girls State which brought her great joy for many years. When she wasn't busy volunteering her time she was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Family always came first. Some of Evelyn's fondest memories were shared with family and friends at their camp in Mississippi but her most recent favorite times included family gatherings, going out to eat and lil trips to the casino. She will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Masses preferred. Condolences may be offered at www.westsideleitzeagan.com.
