Nanny Fabia was always in my life. I loved to spend time with her and my cousin Tina. They lived just down the street from my grandparents so impromptu visits were easy. She loved to swim and was the first person I knew to have an above-ground swimming pool in her backyard. When she married Daddy's nephew, Juan, we became related in a new way. I have a sweet memory of standing near at St. Maurice's Church as they spoke their vows. She and Juan bought a home in Buccaneer Villa and started having babies. Tina was big sister to Tanya and then "Juan III", whom we all called Fotsie. Don't ask! Birthday parties, Christmas holidays, and the family picnic were staples but there were so many other occasions for us to be together. Mom and Fabia were lifelong best friends and Tee and I were too! Keeping Tanya and Fotsie took me AND Tee. LOL Love them both and my heart goes out to them and their families because Nanny left a big hole in my heart and there's is undoubtedly bigger. I still find myself thinking about how we'd just stop in Destrehan on the way to Nola and take her to lunch. In later years, we would meet Tanya and Paul, too. It was at one of these lunches that they told us about Paul's diaconate journey and all of the exciting journeys of their girls. Even Fotsie met us at Destrehan Plantation for lunch and, of course, we talked about Julie and the Js. She was always so positive and uplifting. She'd say once how she was feeling and then put that aside and tell us about her grandkids, her theater tickets, playing cards with her neighbors, and whatever else she had going on in her life. When she had to use the handheld scooter and oxygen to get around, it didn't slow her down. Nanny Faye was like a second mother my whole life. At least I had her nine extra years. Words could never express how much I love and miss her. I have this wonderful image in my mind's eye of she and Mom together again and they're laughing and praying and waiting for us all to join them. Till then, Nanny, Dahlin'!

I know that the loss of your mother will be felt for the rest of your lives. She was such a vivacious lady who loved all of you and contributed so much to St. Bernard Parish life.

I loved my Aunt Faye. I lived with her for a few years after high school and we became close friends. I will miss our canasta games, her birthday cards every year, and our chats. I will love her always and look forward to our reunion in heaven.
