Fay Keenan Obituary

Fay Lawton Keenan, age 90, died at her residence in Covington, Louisiana on Friday, June 17, 2022. She was born in New Orleans on October 16, 1931. Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, John Baptist Keenan, Sr.; her parents, Michael Joseph Lawton and Agnes Gaudet Lawton; and her brother, Michael Lawton (Diane). She is survived by her four daughters, Sharon Bostwick (Richard), Lynn Joseph (Trey), Joan Matanic (Dave Kozera), and Lisa Brooks (Barry); four sons, John B. Keenan, Jr., Michael Keenan (Sherri Walters), Thomas Keenan, and Patrick Keenan (Christine); brother-in-law, Arthur J. Keenan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Keenan Normand and Diane Lawton; nine grandchildren, Donald A. Loehr (Kellie), Michelle Loehr, Christopher Keenan, Camille Keenan LaBorde, Barry Matanic, Claire Brooks, John Keenan, III, Joshua Warden, and Andrew Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Matheny, Lucas Loehr, and Mason Loehr. Fay was a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in New Orleans, and Mary Queen of Peace in Mandeville. She was a member of the Acres of Green Garden Club, Mandeville Republican Women's Club, and Beau Chene Country Club. Fay enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, cruising, and painting. Above all, Fay loved her Catholic Faith, her husband, John, and her family. Her travels took her all over the country and the world. After a summer vacation visiting cousins in Tybee Island, Georgia, Mother & Dad enjoyed many vacations in Pensacola and Orange Beach. Mother also enjoyed cruising to many interesting locations, often bringing along a friend or one of her children. Russia, Italy, Nova Scotia, Southeast Asia, and France were a few of mom's adventures! Mother believed life was a beautiful gift to be enjoyed, and lived graciously, surrounded by people and things she treasured. Mother learned to paint in her 80s and truly enjoyed it. Mom had a 3-wheel tricycle when she could no longer drive and rode it in Audubon Park. She was grateful for her husband, John, who she missed greatly, but felt close to even though he was gone too soon. Mother left us on Friday, June 17, Saturday, June 18, would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Our Lord brought them together again. May she rest in peace, we will miss you, Mom. The family would like to extend their gratitude to care partners, Laura Davis and Ronnie Thomas, as well as the staff of St. Anthony's Gardens Covington, Trinity Trace Community Care, and Heart of Hospice, especially Dione, for the care and compassion given to Fay. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. Miss Fay was the den mother to our little hamlet on Haring Court. She raised seven then eight children yet always found the time to have the entire neighborhood kids in her kitchen! We lived next door to each other for 18 years and with that, 45 years later, I still consider Lisa my sister and the girls and guys just as dear to my heart. I know she had a tough time in her remaining years but always had the loving support of her family. All my love to the Keenan clan and their spouses, children and grandchildren. Rest assured, she will be missed and continues to be your Angel!
All my love-

Though I always remember Faye being around during childhood, I really came to know and admire her when Tom and I were paired up as Maid & Duke of John Q. Adams Junior High's annual Mardi Gras ball. I remember Faye and my mom spending many long afternoons together put their love and care into making our costumes gorgeous!
Through that shared labor of love, Faye & John and Charlie & Dottie became fast friends, spending so much of their time together playing cards, dining out, and fishing and golf for the guys.
As with John, I will miss Faye and her sharp wit and humor and will remain forever impressed with how adept she was at juggling so many children and all of their various schedules. She was indefatigable!
God constantly amazes me in His infinite wisdom and compassion; to reunite Faye & John in Heaven for them to spend their 70 wedding anniversary together leaves me in utter awe of His grace. R.I.P., Faye...
