Faye Armes Obituary

Our dear mother, Faye Armes, passed away January 4, 2018, at the age of 90. Born Eunice Faye Murray on July 16, 1927 to A. E. and Emma Murray, Faye was a native of Jacksonville and attended Fishweir Elementary, John Gorrie Junior High, and graduated from Lee High School. She met and married the love of her life, Pete Armes, in 1947 and together they raised two children, Bruce and Cheryl. Faye was a devoted wife and mother, active in the church she loved dearly, Avondale Baptist, a true southern cook, an inspired leader and faithful friend. She had a successful career as loan officer with Seaboard Coastline Credit Union, and after retiring in 1983, she and Pete began their second careers as managers of the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville. Faye continued at the Ronald McDonald House after Pete's death, finally retiring in 1998 and returning to her family home in Jacksonville. She was most recently a member of Lake Shore Baptist Church.

Faye was a smart, personable woman who rarely met a stranger and who always had room at her table for one more. She was creative and funny, and lived her life according to her Christian values and innate generosity. She was blessed with the gifts of leadership and stewardship and was faithful to both callings. Because of the many lives she touched through her work at the Ronald McDonald House, there are people far and wide who fondly remember "Miss Faye" and her kindness to them.

Faye was predeceased by her husband, Pete E. Armes, her daughter, Cheryl Armes Peters, her brother, Carl Murray, and her sister-in-law Tooie Murray. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Marcelle Armes; three grandchildren, Amanda Armes Royce, Matthew Armes (April Johns), and Shawn Peters; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Breckin Armes-Johns, Alicia, Bo and Ethan Royce. Special appreciation to the staff at St. Catherine Laboure for caring for Faye in her last days.

The family is planning a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Faye's name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville, FL. Still remember her and and husband Pete teaching my brothers and I in our Training Union Sunday school class at Avondale Baptist. Also the great conversations we had when she was at Saint Catherine, she always had a great outlook and worried more about others than herself. A very unselfish lady who loved her savior Jesus Christ.

Faye was one of the most loving, caring friends I have ever been blessed to know. Her deep faith was an inspiration to all of us who knew her. May she rest in peace.
