Frank S. "Rusty" Oser III, MD

Frank S. "Rusty" Oser III, MD, was born May 6, 1952, a fifth generation New Orleanian, to Helen Elaine Negrotto and Dr. Frank S. Oser Jr. He passed away July 9, 2017 after a brief illness. Rusty was a graduate of Louisiana State University and the LSU School of Medicine, and is a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. After an internal medicine internship at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, Rusty completed a residency in Neurology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He served on the staff of several community hospitals, focusing his practice primarily at Southern Baptist Hospital. Following Hurricane Katrina, he joined the Neurology Department at The Ochsner Clinic Foundation and briefly served as the Interim Chairman of the Neurology Department. Rusty was a Diplomate of the American Academy of Neurology, Fellow of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine. Rusty was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Frank S. Oser Jr. and his stepfather, G. Frank Purvis Jr. He is survived by his mother, Helen Oser Purvis, his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Lisette Carriere Oser, and his two children, Frances Schully Oser and Walter Christopher Oser. He is also survived by two sisters, Karen Oser Edmunds (Ollie) and Kristin Oser Capshaw (Ben), one brother, Dr. Eric Richard Oser (Laranne) of Atlanta, GA, his stepsister, Winston Purvis and his stepbrother, G. Frank Purvis III. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Dr. Frank S. Oser Jr. scholarship fund at Jesuit High School or to Louisiana State University are preferred.
