George Crane Obituary

George Price Crane, Jr., better known as Price, was born June 15, 1939, in New Orleans, LA. He was the son of George Price Crane and Rae Clara Geary. He spent the majority of his young life in Holy Name Parish, attending Holy Name Elementary, Jesuit High School and his freshman year at Loyola University on a basketball scholarship. He loved sports of every variety and was an avid and talented basketball player and tennis player. He also enjoyed a Sunday afternoon Audubon Park baseball pick up game in his younger years. After graduating from Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, where he was a member of the basketball team and the ROTC program, he joined the U.S. Army assigned to the Infantry and was sent to Ft. Benning, GA where he graduated from Ranger school, and was then sent to South Korea in 1962. He was scheduled to be released the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated, so he was sent to Ft. Polk until the alert was lifted. Price then worked in bonds in his father's Crane Investment Co, traveling the state of Louisiana selling municipal bonds. It didn't go well, but his dad asked him to give it six more months. His dad closed his firm during those six months and joined Kohlmeyer and Co., an investment brokerage firm in New Orleans. Thus began a successful career until his retirement from A.G. Edwards and Sons in 2002. Until his death, he devoted his time and talent to many 501(c)(3) organizations in New Orleans, including the Brothers of Sacred Heart, Holy Cross College, GPOA (now merged into The Greater New Orleans Foundation), NAMI, and many other smaller organizations who took advantage of his financial expertise. Price was married to Ann Alexander for 52 years and they were the parents of twin sons, William Maxwell (Max) and Alexander Price (Alex). He has two grandchildren, Aidan Ducros and Charlotte Ann Crane whom he adored. Price left behind two sisters, Patricia Crane Mason, and Rae Crane Pertuit. Price was a true gentleman, respected and loved by many, and he will be greatly missed. His funeral will be at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 631 State Street, Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation is at 12 noon. Funeral Arrangements under the direction of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home. Memorials for Price may be sent to Gayle Benson Cancer Center at Ochsner Hospital. Price was treated with great care and compassion there. He was always grateful to everyone who works there, from the parking attendants to the pancreatic and chemotherapy team.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Max, Alex, and the entire Crane family for their loss. The Lord has blessed me greatly during my life, not the least of which was knowing Mr. Crane. Becoming friends with Max and Alex as well as graduating Holy Name of Jesus as well as Jesuit myself I was able to know Mr. Crane personally but was also blessed to be able to know him professionally through A.G. Edwards where I was able to win an award in an essay contest through them. May the Lord bless and keep this family in their time of need. In Jesus name.

Lois and I moved to Henry Clay in Jan 1997. Across the street from the Cranes. Ann called us the new kids in the block. She probably does not remember that. After Katrina, Price called to say he knew of someone with a drone who could do a flyover to check my roof damage. He was always helpful. We will miss him. Rest in Peace.
