George Scott Obituary

George Gilbert Scott Jr., known as "Guitar" George, was born on March 18, 1956 in El Paso, Texas. George passed away on July 23, 2023. Loving husband of Patricia Mercadel-Scott of 45 years. He is preceded in death by his father, George Scott Sr. and mother, Nellie Scott; his brother, Harold Scott and sister, Mary Alston. He is also survived by a sister, Cynthia Weatherspoon, and three brothers, Joseph Scott, Calvin Scott, and Kevin Scott (Lucretia). George is the father of three daughters, Angel Scott-Biringer (Todd), Amy Scott and Ashley Palmer (George). Brother-in-law of James Mercadel (Veronica), Leo Mercadel, Christopher Mercadel (Charlyn), Linda Gaspard, Selika Mercadel. He is the grandfather of (6) grandchildren, China Durrell, Giovanni Baca, Malaysia Scott, Dahl Biringer, Mila & Catalina Palmer. Special Friend of Julio Baca, Wayne Wells, Terry Williams and Donald Parker. He has many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and godchildren that he loved dearly. George traveled the world being an army brat & playing music. He settled in New Orleans where he met his wife Patricia. George went to grade school in Germany, He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans. He was in the very first graduation class of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). He attended Nunez College, and also Meadows Drawing College in where became a Cad Drafter & structural engineer worker for over 40 years. He retired from a Design Engineering Co. George was a self taught musician for 51 years. He also repaired guitars and gave guitar lessons. George was the guitarist for, Irma Thomas, New Jazz Quinet, Tommy Ridgley, Timothea, Mark Bergeron, Ben Hunter, Hot Ticket, Author Foy Band, Chucky C. Band, Carl LaCoste Band, Big Al, ELS, J.D Hill Band, Mike Soulman Baptiste Band, David Baptiste Band, Traffic Jam, Jojo & Marie, Irie Vibrations Band, Real Love, Wild Magnolias, Bobby J. And stuff like that band and many many more. He also played in Corpus Christi Church for many years. George was the most humble person you could have ever known. He touched many hearts. He had the most interesting journey in life a person can ever have and A Job Well Done. He will be missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave., NOLA 70116 on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment: St Rock Cemetery #2, 1725 St. Rock Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70117. My memories goes way back down memory lane, I remember being between between the age of 4 - 6 years old, and I was just so talkative, asking so many questions, When someone said, she talks way too much, she needs to be quiet,I clearly remember these words you spoke, you said,"No leave her alone, allow her to ask , as she wants to ,She's curious, and inquisitive , this is how she is going to learn , and through those words, your voice has always reminded me of this', I'll always always love you my uncle George ( A real one )
