Very Truly shocked to hear of Greg's passing. If he was your friend he was more than just a friend. He was your family. I met Donald when I rented from him after his heart attack on Miro. My Son Jeff & I were there when he returned home grabbing his heart. I froze & Jeff jumped down to his side performing CPR as the hospital guided us on what to do while awaiting for the ambulance. We helped with his Dad & UNC just before their passing. I sat with them at the nursing home on St Charles Ave while he continued to care for his family & keep up his work. Please accept our condolences. Blessings 2U

Words cannot express how sorry I was to hear of Greg's passing. I met Greg in 1967 when I married Big Reg. Greg made daily visit to the house. He was family. I remember when he married Shermaine , bought his first home and became the proud father of Butch and Brandi. Greg was a loving caregiver too his mom. His care extended to his dad, brother, his uncle and to family, friends, and to extended family. He was loyal to his friends and that loyalty was also gifted to St. Augustine. May Greg's passing be a reminder of how important it is to give of yourself in helping others. Family, may your hearts be filled with wonderful memories. I will keep you lifted in prayer as you mourn Greg's passing. Love you.

Mr Gaines was a regular participant at our cardiac rehab program at Xavier. His love of food, eating out, family life and sports was a frequent topic among our lively group. I hope they are serving Tomahawk steaks in heaven for Greg to enjoy!! He will be missed by many.

On behalf of myself, my family, and the Cornerstone Club, I would like to extend my condolences to the Gaines family. Greg was an avid supporter of the Cornerstone Club as we made it our mission to raise funds for deserving, but needy students to attend St. Augustine High School. I/We will definitely keep Greg and you in our prayers.

To the Family:
I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family of my friend and coworker. Greg and I spent eight years at the VMF together. He in accident investigation and I in AMS. We bonded when I spoke of his dad who I carried mail with at the old Station B. We called his dad the Weatherman, he got a kick out of those stories. We also had something else in common and that was
St. Augustine football, he played there and years later my son played there also, my grandson was a member of the Marching 100. So in finding that out
he forgave me for being a Carver graduate. Greg loved his work and whatever he did he did extremely well. Whether it was a restoration job or accidents.
But more than anything he loved his kids. He is with Our Lord and Savior now.
I have had the honor of working with three generations of the family. He can
now rest and see coach Wash and coach Flint, and not have to worry about
Father Grant hitting him for not having a tie on. His spirit will be up in the stands next to the band at St. Aug's football games. Rest in peace my brother
your with the Lord.

I will so miss our talks. We started out with me just getting ransomware off Gregory´s computer on Christmas Eve 2007. We just clicked with each other then, annd I liked him so much from the start ans to spend a Christmas Eve with him. We talked heart to heart about so many things each time we met after that. So many stories shared both ways. I knew him to be such an honorable man, of such good character, very practical and wise. I was just making a note to call him this morning and see how he was doing. Condolences to the many others who loved him, I have heard many stories about how he loved all his family and friends.
