Gregory Weiss Obituary

Gregory William Weiss was born on March 31, 1955 in St. Paul, MN. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in San Antonio, TX on August 23, 2016. Greg was a 1973 graduate of Cretin High School, St. Paul, MN and 1979 from the University of Minnesota. He then proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served with distinction as an Intelligence Analyst stationed around the world including Italy and South Korea. Greg was later commissioned as an officer and served as a Neonatal Nurse in pediatric intensive care units. After serving his country, Greg then dedicated his professional career to the private healthcare industry, serving in positions ranging from salesman to CEO of major medical device companies and hospitals. Greg was a pioneer in physician-owned hospitals and advocated for industry changes that would improve patient care. Most recently he dedicated much of his time to developing Laredo Premier Healthcare, an elite medical service in Laredo, TX set to open in October of 2016. Greg was an avid pilot and loved flying across the country with his family and friends in his Beechcraft Bonanza A-36, (N-296). More than his career and more than his airplane, Greg loved spending time with his wife Kelly and his three girls. He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Bopp Weiss, his three daughters; Caitlin, Sydney and Kylie. Three sisters; Mary Strand (Mark), Peggy Gawarecki (John), and Jane Lynch (Marty), and one brother Timothy Weiss (Molly). Also survived by his mother-in-law Patricia Bopp, his sister-in-law Sydney Perez (Lea), brother-in-laws Felix Bopp (Barbara), Michael Bopp (Susan) and Eric Bopp (Lisa) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Mary Weiss and his father-in-law Edward Bopp. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Greg on Friday, September 2nd at 1:30 pm, at St. Anthony of Padua, 4640 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. I was stationed in Greg on Able flight in San Vito. I remember that he got the nickname "Murray" because he would wear a Murray State Jersey. He would also remind me that the escape artist Harry Houdini's real name was also Weiss. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family. Remember, when you think of him and smile, he lives in your heart.

Our thoughts & prayers for the family. I served with Greg "Murray" Weiss in San Vito, Italy, and met with him in San Antonio several times, the last time in 2014. A terrific guy, taken by the Lord way too soon.

My condolences to the family and friends of Greg Weiss. I knew him at Cretin High School in St. Paul. I remember him as a kind, intelligent guy who almost always wore a warm smile. He was always nice to be around. At that age, that says a lot about Greg. I am happy to read in his obituary that he had such a rich and accomplished life and a happy death surrounded by his loved ones. Again, my sympathy for your loss.

"The pain you are feeling now doesn't compare to the joy that is coming " Romans 8:18. Thank you for always welcoming me into your house with good company and even better food made by Mr. Weiss himself. We all love and miss him so so much.
