Harold Olivier Obituary

Harold Olivier, Jr., age 67, son of the late Frances Annie and Harold Olivier, Sr., passed away at Passages Hospice in New Orleans on March 30, 2018 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 39 years old for the 28th year in a row. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary Lou Moorman Olivier, his children Gretchen Olivier Olano (Owen) and Jake Olivier (Melissa), his stepson Todd Kern (Kristen), and his six grandchildren Seth Mayeux, Jared Mayeux, Courtney Kern, Carson Kern, Declan Olivier, and Caleb Olano. We could not have cared for him without the help of his siblings Peggy Olivier, Elmer Olivier, David Olivier, Mary Olivier, Joseph Olivier, and Alicia ""Leecy"" Schmitt. His death succeeded his late siblings Ruth Olivier and Tobias Olivier. His greatest joy was as the originator of ""Daddy day out"" and later ""Paw Paw's day out"" where he would treat his kids/grandkids to movies, visits to the zoo, soul food, and Pancho's. He was an exceptional Dad/Paw Paw who would sacrifice anything for his kids/grandkids. Harold frequently, but also lovingly, inflicted his children to dad jokes and Griswold vacations. Harold spent many years as the comptroller of the former NOLA institution, Hubig's Pies, and later administrator within the Department of Otolaryngology at Tulane University. He routinely coached his kids' and grandkids' little league teams and eventually moved up the ranks to head coach of the Archbishop Shaw Varsity Soccer Team who he took to the playoffs on multiple occasions. In these circles, he was affectionately known as ""Coach"" and sometimes the ""Pie Man"" since he often provided pies as an after-game snack and bore a resemblance to Savory Simon. Harold was a life-long resident of Estelle except for two tours of duty in Vietnam as a US Navy SeaBee (honorably discharged), and extended visits to see his grandson in Sydney, Australia. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Harold's life with a visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero on Monday, April 2 from 6-10pm and Tuesday, April 3 from 10-1pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home at 1pm on Tuesday. Condolences may be expressed online at www.mothefunerals.com.
