Leon and Family,
I am so sorry to learn of Hortense's passing. We were friends since kindergarten; graduated from high school together. In recent years we spoke at least once a month; there was always so much to talk about.
Please accept my sincere condolences. I will miss her too.

Leon: It was always a pleasure to be in Gene's company. I recently had a DVD made of my Barbier/Meyer family and at our 1987 family reunion in Metairie, each family sat for a picture. There is a wonderful picture of you and Gene at the reunion that will always be with me.

Mr. Leon and Family,
Mrs. Gene's presence is and was a present to the world. She was unique and one of a kind. Her life was what she wanted it to be, and took those days just one at a time. Count your blessings, not your troubles. You'll make it through whatever comes along, but know that Mrs. Gene is there in your heart at all times. So may God bless you in your time of need.

I will truly miss you Ms. Gene...i always would look to see if you were downstairs when i came to my home next door to see your smile and listen to the latest stories of what is going on in the neighborhood...and our laughs together if not by my own silliness...these times will stay in my heart...I know you are probably arranging for a little wine tasting each afternoon in heaven. Dear Leon and family: I met Gene while working at Southern Regional Research Center in 1969 and we became friends: resulting in of years of good gossip and laughs.
