Jake was a stand up guy. He contracted me to do the JAL banner for his marching group. He told me it had to have some Italian influence but the Irish luck had to be prominent also. I met some of the other guys and got a feel for the group and then hit the drawing table. I wanted something that would hold up, twirl in the sunlight and look like an old fashioned guild banner. Jake was so pleased with it when I finally delivered it. I am truly sorry for your loss as I know what kind of man he was. He wanted to help anyone he could and gave everybody a chance. We were out of town and I saw the notice when we returned last Friday. Had I been in the city, I would have liked to meet his family and would have been there to support you in your time of grief.

Eric, my Brother. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I am also sorry that I'm unable to attend and see you in person. I have a commitment I can not get away from in time to be there.
Your Dad and my in-laws, and wife go back a long way. Every time I would run into your Dad, he'd say " You know, you have to watch that Voltz in the 7th ward." He was talking about my mother-in-law, Dolores Voltz.
He was a great friend to my in-laws and wife, Connie. Always a kind word about them from him. He was always nice to me. God bless you and your family. In Honor of my in-laws, wife and myself.

To the Entire Fruchtnicht Family:
We were so saddened by the news of Jake's death. Caring thoughts as well as our daily prayers are with all of you in this most difficult time of sorrow. Jake was such a great friend to the "OVELLA" Family as we treasured his friendship. He was always there willing to help whenever and wherever needed. He had such a great sense of humor and kept everyone laughing all the time. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute of it. He now has been called home to the Lord and will be the life of the party up above. He will truly be missed. May he rest in peace.

Uncle Jake,
You will be missed by so many. You have always been the "GO TO MAN" in our family. Need a job? Call Uncle Jake. Your kid didn't get into the school of their choice? Call Uncle Jake. Got a speeding ticket? Call Uncle Jake.
Family members will understand the latter three statements, but then again, so will anyone who had the pleasure and honor of really knowing this man of many faces and talents. He will always be a great childhood memory for me. I can see him as if it were yesterday.....sitting at a cluttered kitchen table on Taylor Street, Glo fixing him some coffee, as he dropped off campaign literature for her to address and send out for Joe Yenni?,Sal Lentinni? or Skip Galan. She was supposed to do them, but for some strange reason.....I was the one who always ended up finishing them off.
Now that I think about it....Glo and Jake had alot in common. They both loved people and lived to help others. Not to mention all the BULLCRAP that they were so good at dishing out.
It is truly a sad day for his kids and all of us who are still around, but for those who have already passed on....believe me they are gearing up for the biggest "Political Victory Party" in heaven's history.
I loved hearing his stories whether truth or fiction about books that he read. Being older now, I can appreciate his passion, not because I read the book myself but because it became a part of him and who he was. He once had a snowball stand on Causeway Blvd. that he named "The Last Hoorah" after his favorite book. His attitude was contagious....or maybe it was just "birds of a feather flock together." Because his good friend and sometimes partner in crime was Mr. Billy Burke, who I can also see with Uncle Jake...just dropping in on Glo and having her make them a pot of coffee. Mostly though I remember the laughter! To me Uncle Jake was a very important man. His involvement in the Turnbull marching club is what helped to make it a success, along with his friends, Joe Fuclo and Johnny Marchese. (just to name a few) They sure gave it their all! For me, I LOVED marching with the Turnbullettes but I think Heidi, Holli and Heather had different feelings about it. Of course, they were younger than me, so maybe they couldn't appreciate it like I did. It was a blast and a GREAT adolescent memory that always provokes fond memories of my Uncle Jake.
I don't think "FRUCHTNICHT" is of Irish decent. I have just delegated myself the authority to declare him, JAKE McFRUCHTNICHT. I know this will put a smile on his face. His love of all Irish things was always what I feel has bonded us for life. The way he loved "Big Fat Grand-maw" and the rest of our McCrossen, Irish Channel family was astounding.
I know I have rambled on but I guess I needed a "lil" walk down memory lane with my Uncle Jake. I told him many times of my love and admiration for him. In my eyes he will always shine like the brightest star. He never met a stranger, but sad to say....he did know a few "DONKEYS." No matter what....he never let me down.
I will miss you dearly Uncle Jake. Hey, just one last favor. Please kiss Bob and Glo for me when you see them.
God bless you on your new beginning,
Love,
Cassie

One of the happiest people I have ever known. I have many, many cherished memories of him. He used to put me on top of the refridgerator when I was a kid and give me 20 bucks to let him pull my loose teeth. He always brought us Chinese Food. He was very much a part of my personal family and will sadly be missed. Love you Mr. Jake....Audrey Casey
