Jacob Matthews Obituary

Jacob B. Matthews Sr., a native of Harvey, La entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 27th, 2016 at the age of 66. He was the beloved son of the late Bertha Newell and Roosevelt Matthews Sr. He was preceded in death by his Grandson Pierre Batist Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories his children Jacob Jr., Shartel, Demita, Roshaun (Nicole), Dwayne Washington Sr.; his siblings, Alfred Sr., Roosevelt Jr., Annie B, L'ee Sherman, and Carolyn Ellis. Jacob was also survived by 19 Grandchildren, 6 Great-Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to extend an invitation to Pastors, officers, and members of Little Zion, Greater Jehovah Missionary, Regular, Israelite, Greater Morning Star Baptist Churches, and employees of Crescent City Connection/DOTD, New Orleans Private Patrol, NORDC, ADT, Louisiana Coaches, Boomtown Casino, Walmart, RSD Security, and NOPD. The funeral services begin at 10am, Wednesday July 6th, at Little Zion Baptist Church, located at 4821 Earhart Blvd., New Orleans, La. Visitation begins at 8am. Pastor Mark E. Sandifer will be the officiating Minister. Interment at Veterans Affairs Cemetery, Slidell, La. Professional Services entrusted to Murray Henderson Funeral Home.

To the Matthews' family you have my deepest sympathy. I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with your father for a number of years and we became good friends. Sometimes you lose touch with friends because you get caught up in your family life. The last time I saw him was when he spotted me coming up the escalator in the casino. I am glad to have so many great memories of him. He was funny and everything was funny to him. Talking about being super neat. Most of all he loved his children. I am glad to have shared some of my life time with him. Rest in peace Jake.
