I met Bobbi at the Christian School where we were teachers shortly after moving to New Orleans. I wanted to do an in-depth Bible study and was led to ask her though we did not know each other at all well.
"I am starting a study in my home Saturday. Want to join us? We will do a Precept Study on Covenant." It was clear what God wanted! I got much more than a Bible Study.
That study started a relationship of Bible studies with her and other women weekly. We moved quickly into a deep and powerful prayer relationship that continued for the next several years praying often during the week, at school, at Miss Betty´s house or mine. It also began a practice of praying for our husbands and our families. We never met when we did not pray for our own homes.
Bobbi´s life partner, Jim Ducote, went home to be with the LORD last week. Her loss is great as we spoke on the phone. Partners for forty years means a marriage that lasted through time, health issues that affected both, and yet, her faith remains. It is strong, and it is sure. I heard that in her voice.
My faith grew from knowing these people. Jim continued to be our accountant until Bobbi let Ken know of his stroke in January. On a visit in 2019 to NOLA, Ken and I made certain to have dinner with them at their favorite Chinese restaurant in Kenner. They never seemed to change with time and our fellowship and laughter over good food reminded me that God ordained that evening with them.
My prayers continue for Bobbi and her family. He has them, her church, and a God who IS comfort for such a time as this. I am certain of one thing: Bobbi will deeply miss her Jim, but only until this life ends and the next one begins...and they will be together.
