James B. Gaffney

1924 - 2017

James B. Gaffney, age 92, passed away on August 14, 2017 at 3:30pm surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Texarkana, TX on September 30th, 1924 to the late Frank Gaffney and Sarah Kathryn Stevens Gaffney Lobdell. Beloved husband for 67 years of the late Elaine Broker Gaffney, his "Sweetie", who passed away on August 14, 2010. He is preceded in death by his son, James G. Gaffney, stepfather Bill Lobdell, brother Bill Gaffney, sister-in-law Nell Gaffney and sister-in-law Adele Broker Quirin. He is survived by his children, Gary G. Gaffney (Jacqueline Wollman), Sharon G. (Ray) Carter, Michael S (Christine) Gaffney, daughter-in-law Linda Bartel Gaffney and sister-in-law Marilyn Broker Wenzel. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. James is a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy on ROM 32, PT 480. He is also a retired employee of the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board. He was an avid golfer and member of the Oak Knoll Country Club and a member of the "Yacht Club". The family wishes to express their thanks to Heritage Manor of Mandeville nursing staff and St. Catherine's Hospice. A private Mass of Christian burial was held and followed by interment in Metairie Cemetery.
