We didn’t know Mr. Jim other than being neighbors who live near who came to know each other simply by passing him as he worked in the yard and waving to each other as we passed. He would light up with a big smile and wave each time. We will remember that small but dying gesture each time we pass now it will be missed.

I will always have a special fondness fo “Mr. Jim,” who trusted me at 16 with my very first job, at his Athletic Shoes business in Terrytown. I’ll remember his stories of “Pistol Pete” Maravich, his meticulous handwriting and attention to details, and the way he expected all his employees to treat the customer. Many of the skills I learned on that first job went with me onto other jobs, coaching and in other aspects of my life.

I will remember him attending my wedding in 1988, and running into him a few more times in the years since. Sadly, I had not seen him or spoken with him for many years since, but I’ve never forgotten him.

To the family, please know that I will keep him in my prayers and hold his memory close to in heart. I am so sorry for your loss.

With deepest respect and sincerest condolences,
Annemarie Smith Fisher
