James Meyers Obituary

James John Meyers, Jr. passed away on August 21, of 2022, at the age of 79. Uncle Jimmy was a native and resident of New Orleans. His hobbies included his love of the restoring and the racing of Porche Automobiles. For Jim's final lap, a portion of his remains will be orbiting the earth in a special capsule. No joke. Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife Katherine Crnkovich; his mom and dad, Lisette Sylvia Moore Meyers and James John Meyers. He is survived by his brother, Richard Moore Meyers (Lynn); his nieces, Marilee Meyers (Romi Gonzalez), Katy Meyers, (Sam Mizelle), and Leslie Meyers (Emily Meyers). Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service that will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Rd., Metairie, LA on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, family asks you to consider a donation to Jim's Alma Mater, The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street Charleston, South Carolina 29409, or online at www.foundation.citadel.edu. The family would like to give thanks to Lambeth House/St. Anna's for their special care and to Claudia Fenner, and Olga and Dickie Riegel for their years of loving care and friendship. I first met Jimmy John in 1970 when we were both Marines stationed in Hawaii. We soon began a wonderful friendship that lasted all of these years. When he first visited us in California I encouraged him to apply for a job with Littler, the firm I had joined after completing my Marine Corps service. He did and he too joined the firm. He was a dear friend and we saw each other frequently, both on and off the job. After he became a bachelor, I encouraged him to date my assistant and friend Katherine Crnkovitch. He did, they fell in love and she became his Miss Kitty. We had so many good times together in San Francisco, Monterey/Laguna Seca/Carmel, Yosemite, Napa, Lake Tahoe and at 49ers games. After Miss Kitty´s passing, his move to New Orleans and my move to Savannah, we visited Jim one last time in NO several years ago. He picked us up in Kitty´s old red mustang and we had a fabulous last dinner at his favorite restaurant
. As always, Jim was a master host. Jim will be greatly missed by me and all who knew him. He was the consummate Southern Gentleman, a fine lawyer, wonderful person, cherished friend and a good and honest man.
J.J I love you like a brother and truly believe you are in a far better place with Miss Kitty and your oh so gentile parents. Be at peace my dear friend.

Jim & Miss Kitty were our close "across the street" neighbors in the Marina District of San Francisco.
Having served with Jim in the Marine Corps JAG, we had much in common.
Following Miss Kitty's unexpected early departure, Jim moved back to New Orleans where we made special trips to visit with him and his family.
In addition to his gentlemanly manner, Jim, was an excellent attorney, much respected by the SF and CA Bar Associations. The memory of his "old school personality" lives on with all of us here in the Bay Area. We will miss him - dearly!
Rest in peace good friend.

I'll never forget walking out of my office at 650 California St. in September of 1980 and seeing Jim Meyers. We were classmates at The Citadel and I hadn't seen him since we graduated in 1965. I was brand new to San Francisco and Jim and Katherine (Miss Kitty) took me and my wife Ruth under their wings. Jim was a good classmate and outstanding friend, and, oh my, did we have some good times in San Francisco. Thank you Jim and Kitty for all that you did for Ruth and Me and may you rest in peace. Much Love, Pat and Ruth Robertson

I remember Jim from his early years at Littler. We worked closely on a number of legal matters for clients. And, among our various projects, we wrote a book together on the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act called "The Grower's Handbook to the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act." Jim was bright, outgoing and a friend. Jim, may God's hand be on you as you rest in peace.

We knew Jim very well from the Littler law firm, and we owned a flat in San Francisco together. He was a great guy. They don't make them like that anymore.
