Jane Bories Obituary

Jane "Janie" Burkenroad Bories died peacefully on May 31, 2022 with her loving family at her side and surrounded by her friends and caregivers at Poydras Home. A graduate of Isidore Newman School and Newcomb College, Janie was an active volunteer and philanthropist for many causes. She was involved with the National Council of Jewish Woman's programs including the City Hall Answer Desk, and the Fox 8 Defenders initiatives. She and a group of friends organized and operated the arts program for the Andrew Jackson School. Janie was the recipient of the Judah Touro award for her philanthropy and volunteer work. She served on many other volunteer committees throughout her lifetime and was consistent about accomplishing her goals. Janie was an avid golfer and tennis player for many years and was a member of the Audubon Golf Club, Lakewood Country Club, Pass Christian Isles Golf Club, and the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club. Later in life she became a bridge enthusiast with games several times a week. Her warmth, generosity and personal quirks were loved by all who knew her. She was known for her creativity which was exemplified in her personal style of cooking, gardening, and hosting many gatherings at her home. Jane Burkenroad Bories was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 28, 1929, to William Benjamin Burkenroad, Jr. and Evelyn Kahn Levy and predeceased by her first husband of 38 years (1952-1990), Alan Villard Bories and her sister, Peggy Burkenroad Selber (my Sistah). She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Jane Schleiff of New York City (Henry), and Lynn Bories Smith (Charlie) and a son, Robert Alan Bories both of New Orleans (Bridget Briede). She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Harry Benjamin Schleiff (Martha), Sidney Villard Schleiff, Robert Alan Bories, Jr. (Rayne), Carolyn Bories Knapp (Anton), Evelyn Burkenroad Bories, Clay Morgan Smith (Katy), Andrew Villard Smith (Elizabeth), and Kathryn Smith Korengold (William). She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Baker Whittemore Knapp, Henry Burkenroad Knapp, Elizabeth Jane Bories, Jack Alan Bories, Clay Morgan Smith, Jr., Kathryn Grace Smith, Fredonia Grace Smith, Margaux Lynn Korengold. and Edith Moldovan Schleiff. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jane was also predeceased by her second husband Sam Corenswet, Jr., of 23 years (1996–2019) and his son John Corenswet. She is survived by Sam's son Jay Corenswet (Avery), Sam's grandchildren, Amy and David Corenswet. A private memorial service was held Friday, June 3, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Janie's memory to Community in Schools, P. O.
