Janet Calvert Obituary

Janet 'Ann' Campbell Calvert was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Lt. Col. John Cook Campbell and Claudine Josephine Verneuille Campbell on September 22, 1932 and gained her wings at 90 years young on October 28, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Charles Richard Calvert for 67 years. Mother of Claudia Elizabeth Calvert and the late Janet Ann Calvert Gallagher. She leaves behind grandchildren: John James Chenevert, Robin Christopher Calvert, Jon-Michael Adam Norris, Austin James Gallagher, Malorie Francis Gallagher and great-grandchildren: Morgan Lynn Calvert, Joshua Charles Calvert, Joshua Everett Norris and Parker Adam Norris. She was preceded in death by her grandson, JPSO Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris (EOW 7/5/2007) and great-grandbaby, Michaela Marie Chenevert. She will be sadly missed by a host of relatives, friends and students. Ann was a graduate of Francis T. Nichols High School, Southeastern and Loyola University, where she received her Masters degree +30 hours towards her doctorate in education. She dedicated almost 30 years of her life to teaching students at a number of schools, including Metairie Middle School, East Jefferson High School, Riverdale High School, T. H. Harris Middle School and John Martyn Technical School. She retired from teaching in 1979. A devout Presbyterian, she was a long time congregant of Parkway Presbyterian Church in Metairie. Ann was an accomplished homemaker whose life was reflected in her love of traveling (cruises, Vegas shows, Disney theme parks, historical sites in Europe, etc.), enjoying Mardi Gras parades, visiting favorite towns in Alabama, and spending quality time with her family and dancing friends. She was a dance instructor/owner at Calvert School of Dance in the 60's & 70's where she taught ballet, tap and ballroom dance along with her husband. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, whom she cherished. And she loved all things 'Campbell' for her Scottish heritage. Friends and extended family, please join us to celebrate her life on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will start at 10 a.m., with a service to begin at 1 p.m. followed by interment. To order flowers or offer condolences, please visit www.gardenofmemoriesmetairie.com.

Everything about Mama Ann (as we called her. Because above all she was a loving mother of many people in her heart) She is the true imbodiment of love, kindness, and took great joy in the joy she spread to us all. I miss her dearly and always will.

I met Ann at Parkway Presbyterian Church in 2007.I enjoyed her friendship. She shared several stories of her past. We both were teachers and had an interest in our family´s genealogy plus we had both been in military families. She will be missed. Love you, Ann. Martha Bauman
