Miss. Jean Clare Hecker, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from heart disease. Jean taught school for nearly 50 years at St. Agnes School, Helen Cox, and was a counselor at Riverdale High School. Jean was a loving caregiver for both parents and would lend a helping hand to others. She was a devoted Catholic, she played the organ every Sunday at St. Agnes Church for 5o years and surely rest in the loving hand of Jesus. Jean is proceeded in death by her parents; Paul and Marie Hecker, her brothers; Francis and Father Elwood Hecker SJ; her sister; Novella (who was a Marianite Nun). Jean is survived by her nieces; Jody Reeder (Ed), and Janet Stein (Alan), her nephews; Bob Hecker (late Richelle), John Hecker (Mary), many great nieces and nephews and many longtime friends. Jean will be missed by all who knew her, as the fine person she was. The Hecker family would like to thank Covenant Home for the wonderful and loving care given to Jean over the past few years. In lieu of flowers please send donation to St. Mary's Residential School in Alexandria, Louisiana or Covenant Home on Magazine Street. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Miss Jean was a very special person. She taught my brother Earl Higgins in 2nd grade in the late 1940s and my son Douglas Lloyd in the late 1970s.

She was truly a woman of God. Three generations of my family were blessed with her friendship. I can picture her making "a joyful noise to the Lord" on an organ in heaven.

Miss Jean was an extraordinary musician, teacher and very varing person who had an immense impact on a long list of people within St. Agnes parish and her impact will will continue for many decades to come. I´m going to miss Aunt Jean! When I was young, I didn´t know that she wasn´t my real aunt. I always just called her aunt Jean.

Rest in peace, Miss Jean! Not only did she play the organ at St. Agnes on Sundays, but she played every funeral, wedding and most weekday morning Masses during that time period. I was blessed to have her both as a teacher and as an inspiration.
