Joan Perret Obituary

It is with deep sorrow, but much love in our hearts that we share the passing of Joan Ferrand Perret (Joanie), a devoted mother, loving wife, and cherished grandmother, on September 15, 2024. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Elliot Perret Sr.; her sons, Elliot "Jamie" Perret Jr. (Danelle) and Garret Perret (Christy); her daughter, Lisa Lagarde (Scott); and her grandchildren, Hannah Perret, Julia Perret, Race Lagarde, and Cy Lagarde. Born on March 29, 1940, she was lifelong resident of New Orleans; embracing all our culture had to offer and made sure everyone around her did too. Growing up in Midcity, she had the most colorful stories of life on Bayou St. John and was a proud graduate of John McDonogh, always speaking fondly of her fun-loving high school friends. She enjoyed sharing those stories over family Sunday dinners, hosting festive holiday parties with too much pink champagne, and throwing the most sought-after Halloween celebrations in the neighborhood. Whether enjoying seafood cookouts at her camp in Bay St. Louis or offering a comforting shoulder to lean on, she made everyone feel loved and welcome. Baking for any and every occasion, she always had a cake ready for whoever came to visit. Joanie's faith was central to her life as a devoted Catholic and she was the heart of our family, a warm presence who was given an uncanny ability to make everything better. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Leona Ferrand; her brother, Theodore Ferrand II (Rita Ferrand); her sister, Lois Connolly (John Connolly); and her adored niece, Louise Hemard, and nephew, Theodore Ferrand III. Joanie will be laid to rest following a private graveside service in Greenwood Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.greenwoodfh.com for the family.
