One of my fondest memories of Mr. Curtis is of him showing me his art collection in his house. He loved art so much that he surrounded himself with beautiful pieces of art. Not only did he surround himself with art but also with the simple goal of educating children and young adults in a Christian environment. His legacy will live on through his family, and the school he created and maintained all these years.

I received guidance, discipline, academics, and love from you and Mr. Curtis and I am forever grateful and proud to have graduated from John Curtis in 1974.

Mr. Curtis... There are so many words to say about that man. As a student at John Curtis, like KF said when Mr.Curtis was around, we all knew to behave. It is sad that he isn't here physically; But we all know that He is watching over us. My sister graduated from Curtis and I will next year. If you've ever attended Curtis, you will always remember the Chapels. Whenever Mr. Curtis wanted to preach about something important,we'd have that 9:15 Chapel service and we would never know what to expect. Curtis is a unique school. Mr. Curtis treated each student as an individual, not just another number. At Curtis I have made amazing friends and have had some of the best people as guidences that a 17 year old girl can have. As JT and the grandchildren spoke and the slideshow of Mr. Curtis played at the funeral, there was a sadness but also a joy at the same time. Just to see a glimpse of his life and how he conducted himself and his family was an experience. When Coach Rob got up and spoke and then started to cry, it was heartfelt. Mr. Curtis is a man that is known obviously throughout the United States. For all the things that Mr. Curtis did, I wonder how many people he led to know Jesus and started people on the right track in life. That's what I call and Amazing Follower of Christ! To the Curtis Family, I hope that there is a peace and not so much sorrow. We all know that Mr.Curtis is still holding up his number ones and cheering his FIGHTING PATRIOTS on until the end!

To the Curtis and extended families:

I was saddened to hear of the death of Mr. Curtis. He was my principal at Mid City Baptist from 2nd-4th grade, and then I went on to John Curtis when it opened (5th grade) and graduated from JC in 1971.

I STILL remember a TALK Mr. Curtis gave to ALL the girls one day in the Cafateria. He told us that NO BOY would EVER love you like your father does, it was so good, and I think of that OFTEN now that my father is also in heaven.. Mr Curtis was a GREAT PERSON and he loved the Lord so much, it showed in ALL he did and said.

My sister and I have MANY other fond memories of our years at Mid CIty and John Curtis, and we are so thankful to have those in our lives.

May Gods COMFORT and ENCOURAGEMENT OVERTAKE YOU AT THIS TIME,

You are all in my prayers.

God Bless you all....

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.... Robby - the video you made was an absolutely perfect memory of him and all of the values he stood for: first and foremost God, family, and friends, but also education, values, and brothership. My days began at Curtis when I was only 6 years old and continued until my graduation in 1997. Curtis was not only a school but it also became part of our family and for this I thank you. Mr. Curtis was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him - he was the epitomy of a patriot. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the Curtis family.

Dear Curtis Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Curtis was a special person and he will truly be missed.

I will always remember the phone call I made to Mr. Curtis the day my Dad died back in 1986. I asked him if he would perform the funeral and he immediately said yes and prayed with me. I will be eternally grateful to him for being there for my Mom and me at that sad time.

I spent all of my school days from 1st grade until 12th grade at John Curtis. I followed in the footsteps of my older brother Horace who also graduated from John Curtis many years before me. The one picture I have of my brother is of him receiving an award at his graduation with Mr. Curtis watching from his seat.

I wouldn't trade a minute of my time at John Curtis for anything. It's hard for me to imagine the school without Mr. Curtis. Although he will not be there in body, I know he will definitely be there in spirit. He is the ultimate Patriot.

I pray that we will all find comfort in the fact that Mr. Curtis is now home with the Lord.

My daughter(Victoria) just started at John Curtis this school (2004-05). I never got the pleasure of meeting Mr. Curtis or his wife Mrs. Merle. I have met most of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. If Mr. Curtis is anything like them then he left and went to heaven a very proud and wonderful man. Him and his wife's raising of their children shows what wonderful people he was and his wife is. They are loving and wonderful people and they have made my daughter as well as my husband and I feel like we are apart of the John Curtis Family. The legacy will be carried on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His departure to heaven is with a big smile on his face and his head up high. Uncle Johnny,

I'll never forget the man who gave me the opportunity to experience a wonderful education throughout High School and Junior College. When I met you in the summer of 1964 you offered me the opportunity to come to your school and it changed my life forever!

I will always remember the great times and laughs that we shared together.

Some of my fondest memories, were when you brought me with your sons to the Monday night fights at the auditorium, when you recruited me to work on the church and school, and our infamous trip to Ferriday, La, for the girls track meet. That experience still gives Charlie Cashio and I a good laugh.

Uncle Johnny, thanks for the memories.

As a young boy from Kenner with a single mom, you and Aunt Merle were a tremendous influence on my life.

I was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Rev. John Curtis, Sr. a great man. Although I only attended John Curtis school for 2 years, I have fond memories of the Curtis family and how dedicated they were in educating fine Christian young people. I found Mr. Curtis to be a spirited, convicted man of faith who willingly shared with his students. At John Curtis School, we were taught more than just reading, writing and arithmatic, we were taught life lessons.

Rev. Curtis counseled his students about the need to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and how integral it is in making our lives whole. Mr. Curtis not only talked the talk of a Christian (giving the school body sermons in the gym, stopping in the halls, popping into classrooms and in bible classes)but he led by example. He walked the walk of a Christian daily. Mr. Curtis was a great educator and man of faith who touched the lives of many students and parents alike through the years. I just know that he is dancing with the angels in heaven, pain free with that big smile giving his famous victory sign. My heart goes out to Mrs Merle Curtis, JT, Leon, Alicia, Debbie and the entire the family. He will be missed but the impact of his presence here will go on for many many years. God bless.

Mr. Curtis had a huge impact on many people. The School was an extension of the man. Some of the most memorable times of my life was in school at John Curtis (1979-84). The direct and indirect influences that Mr. Curtis had on the students, made them into the successful people that they are today. I don’t believe that one man could have touched so many live in a positive way as he did. I am very fortunate to know him and the Curtis family. I feel bad for the generation that will never know the man that started John Curtis Christian School but I know that his legacy will live on.

To the entire Curtis family:

I want to express how much Mr.Curtis will be missed by the Theriot family, as well as by many others. Mr.Curtis showed my family much love and passion from the time we entered into his school. He was there to lend a ear when my mother passed away, and even preached at the funeral. He was also there for my family when my brother passed, and let us know everything would be ok for my nephew attending school at John Curtis. I remember going to work on his house in New Orleans, and how he would share stories of the house, and we would just listen for hours. I know that he has planted very good seeds in his family, and what he has taught them will be passed down for generations to come. God Bless you all.

I went to John Curtis Christian School from 1rst - 12th grade (87'-98')and I remember many things about Mr. Curtis. I remember him always making me smile or laugh as he walked those hallways. I remember his random interuptions at times into any given classroom and telling us old stories that would make us all laugh. I remember sitting in that hot gymnasium listening to all of his long sermons, which now I look back on and cherish. But above all the memories, there is one that I will cherish forever. It meant so much to me personally and I thank Mr. Curtis and Mrs. Merle for doing this, and that was when they had the entire senior class over for dinner at their house. I know they did this every year and that it was sort of a Curtis tradition, but to me, it was very personal and it made my John Curtis Christian School experience ... well ... complete. I cherish the days I was there, and I thank the Curtis family for all of the memories. My prayers and thoughts go out to all of you with love.

Mrs. Curtis and family,

I will never forget what a wonderful experience it was for me to spend five years at your school. From the very first day to the last day I enjoyed every moment. Mr. Curtis was a great and caring person. To this day I still follow all of the Curtis news. It makes me proud to say I was in the class of 1968. Each of you will be in my prayers. You were blessed to have had Mr. Curtis in your lives.

Mr. Curtis was a great man; he loved every one of his students good or bad. He never would judge a person, he was a great guy. I have been attending Curtis since the 7th grade, I love it there, and they make you feel like a part of their family... it’s a great place to be.

Ever since I have been there it has changed my life. Although Mr. Curtis wasn't at the school much you knew when he was there. Every one would freak and be like be good Mr. Curtis is here and we knew to be on our best behavior. He was a well respected man. But now going into my senior year of high school under a new headmaster I’m not sure what to expect. Things will be different.

I know that the week prior to Mr. Curtis’s death I along with many more students was very upset when someone would talk about him I would be almost in tears. Although I knew he would be much better off it was the thought of him not being around that killed me. And at the senior graduation when J.T. stood their and sad it wasn’t his place, to be standing there it was Mr. Curtis’s I just couldn’t stop, it was tear after tear.

I’m going to miss seeing him around. I know lots of people will he was a GREAT man. But for those of you who know Mr. Curtis he had a great heart, he was a wonderful man, and he always did everything he could to help someone out. Being the great man that he was it not hard to judge where he will end up! And even thought he isn’t here with us physically we all know that he is here with us spiritually!

In Loving Memory of a GREAT MAN!

I will miss him dearly and I wasn't even one of the many who where so close to him.

To Mr. Curtis' family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Mr. Curtis was a geniune Christian man. He gave my little brother the chance of a lifetime by inviting him into his school even though Ryan had special needs. I know that he is in heaven watching over us all. He is a true guardian angel who will watch over all his past, present, and future students.

My condolences to Mrs. Curtis and family. I received the letter about Mr. Curtis' illness just a few days ago.

To Mrs. Curtis,

Thank you and Mr. Curtis for giving me a wonderful school experience in a warm and inviting atmosphere. After spending 24 years working with children, I know how difficult it has become to make each of them feel special. Both of you had a way of doing that for all of us. You will not know the effects of your lifetime work that has touched so many while in this world, but the rewards will be great. I can only hope that all the work that I have accomplished can be as rewarding to others. You are a hard team to follow but set great examples.

Christ be with you and pour his blessing onto you,
