John Daniel "J.D." Johnson

John Daniel (J.D.) Johnson, a life-long, well-known, and respected resident of LaPlace, LA entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 15, 2023, at the age of 82. He was a people oriented, vibrant, and energetic man that loved his family and anyone he encountered. John was a devout Christian with a profound love and passion for the Word of God. He was an active member of Rising Star Baptist Church in LaPlace, LA where he attended faithfully as long as his health permitted. He was a retired Switchman/Grain Operator for ADM Grow Mark in Destrehan for thirty years. John leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Alice M. Johnson; his devoted daughters, Sharanda (Derwin) Simon, Shandra (Alvin) George, Shatoya Johnson, and two bonus children, Alicia (Elmore) Raymond, and Kendall Gross; four siblings, Beulah Colbert, Vivian Davis, Barbara (Louis) Gibbs, and Reverend Randolph Anthony; twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Johnson, Sr., and Ethel Johnson; one son, Corey Gross; three grandsons, Gerard Poole, Patrick Johnson, and Juwan Manning; five brothers, Percy Johnson, Sr., Wilbert Johnson, Sr., August Johnson, Sidney Johnson, Jr., Herman Johnson, Sr., and Raymond Johnson; and one sister, Maudry Mae Johnson. Pastor, Officers, and Members of Rising Star Baptist Church, all neighboring churches, and family and friends are invited to attend the homegoing celebration on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church, 620 Cardinal Dr., LaPlace, LA. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time. Reverend Alvin McQuirter officiating. Interment will be at St. John Memorial Gardens, 2205 W. Airline Hwy., LaPlace, LA. Visitation will be held Friday, December 29, 2023, from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m. at Bardell's Mortuary, 3856 LA 44, Mt. Airy, LA. Services entrusted to Bardell's Mortuary. Information: (504) 487-2193.
