John Long Obituary

John "Jack" Kenny Long passed away on August 30 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma Berniser Long; his parents, Nicholas and Eleanor Long; his sister, Dorothy Long Kerth (Norman); his brother, Nicholas J. Long, Jr.; and is survived by his sister, Eleanor Jean Long. He is lovingly remembered and missed by his nieces, Suzanne K. Gravener (Ken) and Connie K. Berner (Dennis); his nephew, Chip Kerth (Debi); and many great nieces and great nephews. Jack was blessed with many wonderful friends. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School and Loyola University. He continued to have lunch with his fellow Blue Jay classmates (1949) three times a year. He was a CPA and belonged to The Society of Louisiana CPAs. Jack served his country proudly in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid tennis player and belonged to the Catholic Alumni Club. He loved the Saints and Tulane football, and frequently visited the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Jack collected "bouncy balls" during Mardi Gras and loved decorating Christmas trees all year long. He was full of fun, with an impeccable Irish wit and a charming smile. Jack missed his "Normita" very much and is now happily reunited with the love of his life. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 12:15pm in the J. Garic Schoen chapel of JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will begin at 10:00am and continue until Mass time. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
