NUNN John "Jackie" McQueen Nunn, age 80, died of cancer on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at his home in Baldwin City, Kansas. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 15, 1929, the third of five children, to Leah Agnes Hennessey Nunn and Walter Melrose Nunn, Sr. After graduation from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans he joined the U.S. Armed Services and spent four years on active duty during the Korean War. Most of those years were spent in southern Germany. Upon his return he began his studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he received a BS in Business (Accounting) and eventually became a practicing CPA in New Orleans. During his time at LSU he was well known on campus for being involved in several different leadership roles and service organizations. In 1957 he married Elizabeth Ann Stewart Nunn. They had two daughters. On September 8, 2005, directly following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Kansas to be near his older daughter. Mr. Nunn is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Ann Nunn Bittlingmayer and George Bittlingmayer (Lawrence, Kansas), and Jeanne-Marie Nunn Alexander and Gordon Glass Alexander (Irvine, California), as well as four grandsons, Adam Mathias Nunn Bittlingmayer (San Jose, California), Stefan Conrad Nunn Bittlingmayer (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Gauen Rhys Alexander (Birmingham, Alabama), and Ted Ryley Alexander (Irvine, California). He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Halden Nunn Bittlingmayer, on January 17, 2010 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was also preceded in death by his two elder brothers, William Anthony Hirt Nunn and Walter Melrose Nunn, Jr. He is survived by two younger sisters, Mary Dorothy Nunn Canzonire and her husband, Jack Lee Canzonire (Baton Rouge, LA) and Leah Mary Nunn Weis and her husband, Harold Joseph Weis, Jr. (Metairie, LA) He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, three brothers-in-law, and his former wife. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Funeral Mass to be celebrated in the chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 2827 Canal St. in New Orleans on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment with Military Honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery following the Mass.
