60+ years ago I was most fortunate to be treated by Dr. Ochsner in the emergency department of Ochsner Hospital. I was an 8 year old and had seriously injured my foot.
Dr Ochsner saw me and my injury, then began treatment. It took 116 stitches to repair. Dr Ochsner said that I may not regain full motion or feeling in my toes because of extensive injury. I have total feeling in my foot as well as my foot looking perfectly normal for 60+ years, just because of Dr Ochsner.
I have walked, run, danced and had many beautiful memories just because Dr. Ochsner took the time to care for an 8 year old! So with every step I take, I thank and am eternally grateful for Dr Ochsner!

Rest in peace Dr. John. Dr. John Ochsner showed me everything there was to know about the heart, lungs , and vascular system. He was patient and kind and taught me the art of being a cardiovascular surgical technician. He wrote a glowing letter of recommendation when I moved away. I went on to get my nursing degree and I've always kept my experience in his O.R. close to my heart.

I just heard about the death of our beloved Dr Ochsner. He came to my husband's bedside at Ochsner before leaving to be King Rex. My husband was from Montana and we had settled in New Orleans after his tour in Vietnam. I was born in New Orleans and we thought very highly of Ochsner Clinic and hospital. Dr Ochsner operated on my husband three different times. The last operation was the end of life for my husband. He was 58 years old. Dr Ochsner was as sad as myself and my whole family who were there that day. I never met a more compassionate man than Dr Ochsner. Thank you for keeping my husband alive for 20 years.

I am deeply saddened by Dr. John's passing. He will be greatly missed. His innovative heart surgeries saved my father's life twice. The Ochsner Medical Foundation through the years has always provided us with excellent care.

RIP PRAYERS FOR THE FAMILY

John and I were acquaintances and I saw him frequently at meetings of clubs to which we both belonged. At one such meeting I had flown quickly to New Orleans to check on my son who was at Ochsner ICU with a serious lung problem. I told him about my son and asked if he would check on him. He said he would try and we and the nurses agreed that he made daily appearances at my son's bedside. My son is well now and I attribute his wellbeing to Dr. John's attention and care. God bless you sir and may you rest in peace. You were a wonderful and caring MD. Not many like you!

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

I am so sorry for the family's loss. I never met Dr. Ochsner, but he was the reason I had a mother to grow up with. In 1970, six weeks after I was born, he replaced my 20-year-old mother's mitral valve with a stainless steel Starr-Edwards. She still has the valve today, and chuckles when doctors, nurses, and techs want to listen to her and hear this valve they've only learned about in their textbooks. I pray God will comfort and bless you all for Dr. Ochsner's gift to me of these 48 years with my mom.

I was a nurse in the ICU at Ochsner when Dr. John Ochsner did his first heart transplant. It was an experience I will never forget. For the years I worked in ICU and Recovery, I found Dr. John to be, not only a great surgeon, but a lovely, down to earth, friendly man. I send my sympathy to his family.

In 1962 Dr. John did open heart surgery on my mother, Ruth T. Ritchie. She was 44 at the time and we were concerned about her survival. As memory serves me, he did five surgeries that week, all heart, and only Mom and a nine year old survived. In 1962 that was quite an accomplishment. I want his family to know we had mom with us till she was 89 years old, complete with the large patch in her heart and the one kidney she was born with. It was the kidney that took her after 2 and 1/2 years on dialysis. He was compassionate and understanding throughout her "repair" and we have always been grateful for his talent. May God welcome him with open arms and a warm heart. The Galluscio Family of Indialantic, Florida.

Dear Ochsner Family,
Some people had Superman as a childhood hero, but I had him save my life. In June '68, Dr. Johnny Ochsner cut me open with a "special" horizontal incision intended to be less noticeable when I grew up. He then broke my ribs apart and cut my heart right out of my chest. He connected it to a heart-lung machine and then closed the atrial-septal defect with which I was born. He fixed me beyond great. I grew up a total & complete jock: swimming, running, hurdling, softball, soccer, gymnastics, horseback riding, you name it, I did it. Then I went to LSU in the 80's so y'all know he fixed me well! Thank you Dr. Ochsner. Rest in peace, good man. You saved my life and gave me a new start and I'll be forever grateful.
Fondly,
Leslie LeCorgne Mills
